An interesting shine mechanic

I found out last night that when I jc shined with fox the shine was larger than a normal standing shine. I tested it against just the opposing characters idle animation moving their hurtbox by testing it vs a sand bag. I would get into range so my shine barely whiffed, and it would, then jc into a double shine and it hit. I then tried the same thing but with out canceling out of the shine (I just did a normal shine, and whiffed. Then I did a jc shine in the same position after I went back to my standing animation. The shine hit.)

I should note that I was facing forward, and holding straight down for the shine, not at a -45 degree angle or anything like that.

The aerial version isn't any bigger, but it does have the hitbox slightly forward (not to mention higher due to being off the ground).

I'm assuming that, in this gif, you're switching between the image of Fox doing the first shine (normally), and the second, JC'd shine? I see the number 313 become 317 (and Fox's shine jump cancels on it's 4th frame).

Just clarifying, since it's not that clear in this gif.

Technically the game has different animations in memory for the aerial and grounded shine, thats what the 313 and 317 are.

Yes the gif is just alternating between grounded and aerial shine, from the same position with the same camera location

You can move forward and backward with multishines. Are you sure you didn't do that for the airborne shine by not jumping straight up?
