An idea I came up with a while ago...

I haven't told too many people about this, so, tell me what you think. I think it would be fun for there to be a mode/option in Brawl to be able to play more than one character in one match. Okay, so, pretend you are playing a standard 1v1 with four lives each, Mario vs. Fox. Fox kills Mario, and on his second life, he comes back as a different character, such as Wario. Let's say you have four lives. On your first life, you could be Mario, on the second, you could be Wario, on the third, you could be Fox, and on the fourth, you could be Donkey Kong. This could either be a mode or an option.
Feel free to post your opinion on this.

Just wanted to start off with correcting you on your title. You're merely applying a pre-existing gameplay option from previous fighting games. Didn't really come up with anything new here...

But... applying it to Brawl would make for some fun gameplay. Of course eliminating the ability to select the same character more than once per team which would just make it like a normal stock match : P

I could also see it applied to the tourney scene as a bracket in itself. Nothing broken about it. It would allow for some interesting match ups.

Also in casual play 4P FFA 7 stock you could quite possibly (assuming there are 35+ characters which I'm hoping :D) have a Brawl with everyone. Drooling about it now.

i dont think its really the style of the series. it sounds like a decent mode though, maybe if special melee returns...or special brawl

"i dont think its really the style of the series." How does it not? Because it wasn't in the first two? It would be a great addition to the series. It wouldn't feel out of place at all and would add more depth to 1v1 play having to choose for defense not only against one character but 2+. It fits better than Final Smashes and would be a new feature useable in tourneys.

I like the idea, and Im reallllly conservative when it comes to smashbrothers and hate just about everything about brawl so far.

So that means it's a good idea :p

I'm liking the feedback so far. I'm even surprised at Dylan's positive comment :D

It certainly adds a different degree of strategy if someone wanted to go for broke, say with Falcon, because we all know how quickly the mandingo can be sent flying, only to return with someone like say Marth who could counter his way til a solid lead is built, and then do whatever they want the rest of the way.

OK, just to correct everyone here...It's not a new concept; it's not just from "other fighting games"; and it's opposing to the style of Smash. How do I know this? IT WAS ALREADY IN MELEE. If you ever played the tournament mode with human players only, you had the option to make your character have the "ditto" icon, and you would randomly be a different player each match. It's not exactly the same as changing from stock to stock, but it's the same basic idea. Thus it could work easily.

Hmmm. Best to use the search button before creating new topics, this topic has been made atleast twice before.

It's interesting to note how peoples opinions change over time though, the last topic on this was flamed with most people saying that it would not suit Smash and it is a terrible idea.

I like this idea, and I've had it myself too. It was in Mortal Kombat as far as I know.

Also was in Soul Calibur 2, to my knowledge.

I like it. It would definately make for some interesting matchups, because it's basically a tag team match. And unlike BACON's (which, btw, do look very awesome) this may actually be used in a competitive way.
Not that BACON's are useless. They are very cool to watch, and I'm sure will add some level of new strategy. But I can see them getting old really quickly, and once the items go off, I'm betting they'll go too.

This idea has cropped up from time to time on the boards over the year, but it is still a neat idea IMO. It would be fun to have a sub-tournament with that (like low tiers, crews, etc).

First and foremost, I apologize for saying this was my own idea, I had not remembered that it had been in other fighting games.

Yeah, this was in soul calibur two, but the main difference between these two is that in soul calibur two, after every match, your opponent would regain a certain amount of hp depending on which slot the character they were using was in. I.E., if you opponent beat your character with his 1st character and was left off with half hp, they would regain approximately 10% hp before the next battle, whereas if it was the same concept, but except with their 8th character with half hp, they would probably go back to full.
I, myself, never played King of Fighters, so I had not known about it being in that game.
And just to respond to the grim lizard's post, what you were saying is wrong. You're wrong because being a different character in every tournament match is just like picking random every match, and with this concept, you can be a different character more than once in each match, so, you're wrong.

I like the idea because i suck at super smash bros and need a way to counter some players

but i wonder how long the matches would take if you implement it in a tournament.

Though this idea can be used in online multiplayer (i think it won't happen :( ) if you die someone plays as your alternate. this also allows for really good palyers to hone their skills by facing different people with different ways of playing with different characters.

imagine that............. :colorful::colorful::estatic:

*Thumbs up* I agree to this idea, make it so you could learn two totally different characters. Like in Melee I would switch between Zelda and Sheik mid game and make it diverse.

I support it.

although it could lead to other gameplay types as well.

maybe there could be an option to have a "ditto" character like in melee tournies but for stock so that even YOU don't know what you'll be next.

It would definately fit in Special Brawl Mode but not as Tag Team since that implies changing despite stock.
Perhaps "multi Mode"
or "Team Mode"
or "Switch Mode"
