You're comparing Smash to Golf. Smooth.

You f*cking fail. Two completely different sports with different ideas and set ups.

Guys, we can learn from this!

I mean everyone is forced to use Falco, and Falco

Also we should play on 75m! And use Smash Balls!

/sarcasm

Oh and we should all be ***** and make a post that we know will piss people off, because we seek attention. You know, because that is way harder than just not coming to a board dedicated to a game you hate.

Noooooo.

The ellipses just represented acknowledgment of the message that you were conveying. I can't...refute something like that.

Seriously.

On the internet people make videogame web comics to make points. In these web comics the "bad guy" who believes in the "bad point" is always an ******* and overacts and generally is unable to defend his opinion.

This is a useful tool.

Why? Because it isn't debate. It proves a point because there is no one else to attack the author's idea.

You will see this in things like a console vs console comics. Fan spitting and drooling as he claims his console is best(without facts of course). Cool and collected other-console fan is able to say otherwise(or sometimes say "his console is good too" in a nice and good way). Then bad fan then goes insane or mad and in the end is made to look a fool.

Honestly, it doesn't prove anything. It's not intelligent and it's weak.

tl;dr: ******** web comics don't prove points.

Ha ha ha. Oh jeez.

Did you even read the comics?

If you had, you'd have seen that they are by no means Strawman arguments. Both charactesr act in similar mannerisms on opposite sides of the issue.

Us guys are getting ridiculous?
Who?
Please, give me names.

I know not a single LEGIT pro/tourny-goer that will FORCE people to play via tournament standard rules.
Anyone that does is not a real tournament smasher and thus is actually consider the ******* version of one.

So please, shut the **** up and go hide under an explosive crate, so I can blow it up on your fache.

So, instead of refuting my points, you'll just dismiss them?
What is the point? You compared stages that have either random aspects or unplayable aspects to hazards that are already there and balanced. No one tells other people who they should use as a character (unless someone asks who wins the most or whatever) and they certainly don't get mad about it (I was link player). Third.... you just compared mindgames to some guy shouting loudly. Wtf? Nice troll thread 4chan except it is a really tired aspect.

Hope the magical fulliment jar fills up for you.

Wow, that "comic" just proves that you're a noob and don't know what you're talking about. It'd be one thing if you actually included the general consensus as to why Melee is superior, but you didn't even do that... you bashed opinions that most people don't even hold and most of your metaphors were so ridiculous that it weakens your point. It basically amounts to your opinion that cut throat competition is not fun...

And sandtraps and water aren't gimmicks like items, because you control whether or not you land in them. You don't control random spawns... god why am i responding to a troll's specifics...

Golf is a competitive 1-player game, like speedrunning Mario Bros., or doing Home run contest in Melee.

It's not interactive. The challenge is, uncontroversially, defeating the game itself; performing the task.

Smash is a player fighting another player. Golf is not. They are different not only in a relevant factor, but in THE VERY CENTRAL FACTOR of the controversy you're trying to overturn.

Plus, I'll bet you anything that Golf would not be Golf if the terrain reformed midgame, or the sandtraps came on robot-operated ambulators.

Or if creepy short red guys without souls drove over the course in carts every few seconds.

This failure is indeed epic. You'd have been better off realizing how bad this whole comic is and stringing it up to caricature the idiocy of the opposition.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to give an actual VALID argument against this silly comic.

Hey Katanas, try redrawing your comic with a tennis match at Wimbledon as the backdrop. Doesn't quite work anymore, does it?

I'm too lazy, but I can give you a run-down.

Comic 1. Replace golf hole with Tennis Court. Player 1 complains about air currents (beacause weather is random), spectators making noise and interfering with concentration, potential obstacles on the court. Demand they are removed. Players relocate into empty airtight warehouse.

Comic 2. Simply replace Golf Clubs with Tennis Rackets. Replace Trench with a Long Tube that the ball passes through to directly score a point.

Comic 3. Player 1 interrupts during Player 2's serve. Comic continues as before.

Still works, doesn't it?

I am impressed, Nainsell, by your inability to either read the comics, or read the thread.

I've already pointed out to R I P that his argument falls apart because these comics are not, in fact, Strawmen.

So you can control the weather?

My god. Tell me your secret!
No, but you can account for it - adjust how you shoot, or what club you use. You cannot account for randomness in item spawns, specifically because it is random. No matter what you do, you cannot predict where or when the items will show up, or what the items will be (unless you have only one item on, but thats hardly common).

Quite frankly, theres not a single piece of your allegory which is an accurate parallel. As another poster pointed out, the goals in golf and a fighting game Smash Bros are utterly different. The ways sports and video games work are utterly different. You've utterly failed to account for the randomness factor that causes items and some stages (see: Wario Ware) to be banned as being unfair. Heck, you tried to portray mindgames, which just means being able to predict your opponents reactions to your attacks and take advantage of those and is an unavoidable part of any fighting game, to someone shouting to disrupt the other person's concentration, which isn't in any way parallel no matter how you look at it. All the comic shows is that you don't understand why competitive players use the rules they do at all - and that final little scene makes it seem very much so like a troll attempt to boot.

Oh, and incidentally, I'm not myself a competitive player. I'm a casual player who uses items at least as often as he turns them off and plays on stages based on whether he likes them, not on how fair they are. I simply understand the logic behind competitive players do what they do.

Because it's SO UNREASONABLE to ask about an argument from two different, equally biased sources on opposite sides of an issue?

Also, did you register an account just to troll my thread?
3/10. Awful recovery from failtrolling and butthurt.

How isn't it a Straw man?
Compare both the facial expressions and the words of each character. Neither is "composed, mature, and obviously correct", as would fit the archetype you describe.

Oh so funny faces on both characters. It doesn't make it any less of a straw man against "competitive" players. You've already been outed as a troll, come on, let's be honest now.

No, you can't account for weather. There could be a 30mph wind one moment, then not even a breeze the next. There is equal opportunity for mishap for either side, due to this completely random factor. And you know what? By playing, both sides mutually agree to accept this and acknowledge that this factor potentially effects them equally. They play outdoors, despite the chaotic factors.

Those who cannot handle this element of the game are those who play in indoor simulations, rather than the actual game.

He made that account specifically for trolling Smashboards, so the mods should ban him.
No, I came to Smashboards to state my opinions on a children's video game. It's not my fault that most of you happen to disagree with that.

Thread that planned this one is here.
I'm sorry, but there was no "planning" involved.

Besides, I use a Tripcode on 4chan. That can't be me.

Same troll from 4chan as yesterday. He made that account specifically for trolling Smashboards, so the mods should ban him.

Ah, then its not worth further responses. Anyone immature enough to plan a troll thread like that isn't going to react to logical discourse in any way that accomplishes anything, and anything else just gives him exactly what he wants. Very well then.

What is this that you keep going on about? Staw people? How are scarecrows relevant at all to this thread?
