My rinky-dink local Gamestop is actually getting a Ness shipment for Thursday! Just had a lady confirm it over the phone. She said she wasn't sure about Dedede, but since she specified a shipment of Ness, it sounded like multiple. I'd be surprised if they didn't get at least one Dedede.

I'm hoping my friend in New York can get me a Ness (I got ZSS for him so I asked him to try get Ness on Thursday as our trade). Then in about a week or two, he said he should be able to ship over all of the stuff he's holding for me, since he got a job and can afford to spend more money now.

Then next week I will finally be getting that grant (apparently there was a delay across the board, but they have twice assured me I would get it on the 17th), and hopefully the Dark Pit stock at my local Smyths will have lasted until then. I might pick up a second Rosalina too if she's still there. And of course, Dr. Mario, Bowser. Jr, and Olimar come out that day too.

It's so tempting to run into rare amiibos. I just spotted a Lucina and Robin (it seems there was a restock and only one Lucina and one Robin remained). However, since I don't plan on getting them I left them, so someone who truly wants them manages to get them.

On the other side, I just got the Inkling girl, meaning I can finally rest until September.

I've never bought an amiibo before. I've been on the fence for a long time since I'm not really compelled to even have one of the more common ones with the way they've been incorporated thus far. But Fire Emblem Fates and maybe Codename: S.T.E.A.M uses amiibo the best to me. Have your characters become playable units that you can grow a 'cross-game attachment' too! I've been looking for Robins online just to have one of my favorite characters now. I would at least like to secure him before the inevitable Smash Fire Emblem amiibo restock next year come Fates.

-Check /r/amiibo everyday. The community is quite vile a lot of the time, but you don't have to engage with anyone or even be a Reddit member, just lurk it for tracking posts if you want, since they constantly go up.

-Get contacts who can help you out. Be they within the USA or abroad. They don't even have to be Amiibo hunters, even family relatives will do. This way, if you are ever aware of incoming stock in an area those contacts live in, you can prompt them to get you one and you pay them back somehow.

-Always check local retailers that sell Amiibos anytime you are passing them by. Either you don't find anything you want, or you get lucky, so there is never any harm in stopping by if you're in the area.

-Set up an account with saved details on the online store of every Amiibo retailer of interest. This way, you can have all of your details entered in advance in case any stock comes up, and you can buy stuff in one or two clicks.

-If you have any way of checking local store stock online, do so frequently.

-If you see an Amiibo you have no interest in, but you know is really hard to find, consider buying it and then using it as trade bait. You can then take it to places like /r/amiiboSwap, and someone might be looking for the one you bought, in exchange for one you want.

-Certain Amiibos are exclusive to certain retailers in the US (with the exceptions being second hand stores, import stores, and the Nintendo World Store in New York), so you need to keep your eye on those specific retailers to get the related figures.

Damn. Where I live the amiibo's are just the same old same old. There aren't even any Donkey Kong amiibo were I live. Plenty of Diddy but no DK.

There been a restock of Ness and King Dedede on several GameStop locations in the U.S today. It's best to go to your closest one early in the morning and check out if they have it.

So i gotz my Ness! : D I lucked out in that my gamestop wasn't one of the ones that sold out their amiibos yesterday. There were 2 Dedede's and 6 Ness's there, and since it was only me and a guy I befriended while waiting outside the store for an hour, we got to choose and compare the multiple Ness's, so I got the best looking one out of them and I'm satisfied. : D

Also, I gotta say, Dedede's reprint looks great! The figurine looks so accurate and close to the in game model, which is nice, given he's cartoonish and easier to make look in that aspect compared to the likes of Marth and Zelda.

I'm considering trekking out from my work to the nearest Gamestop one of these days. Its is adjacent to my business's town, only 1 hour and 21 minutes across the freeway on foot. The last time I did that was to pick up my Splatoon pre-order and I'm conditioned to endure long distance walking.

The purpose? Why, to do some amiibo intel and see if there's anyone I might want to buy! If I get engrossed enough, I may scan the area for any Best Buys, Toys R Uses, etc.

Last time I went, Wave 4 just launched. Silver Marios and Pac-Men aplenty (though apparently they're common sightings nowadays.) Probably was the epitome to purchase unspoiled Splatoon amiibo, but I opted out.

GameStop do sometimes get nice restocks of rares, though normally they are pretty barren otherwise. A Ness and Dedede restock just happened today though, so if you really want Dedede, you have a good shot at him today and maybe even tomorrow (my friend just managed to get me a Ness from his local GameStop in New York - they still had more than 20 left at 5pm, which was when he showed up. Pretty surprising since Ness is so sought after due to being exclusive to GameStop who originally only sold him through pre-orders, I believe).

As far as trade bait goes...regrettably, none of the ones you listed are viable options, unless you are close to people who specifically want those or something. Those 4 are pretty common globally, so you wouldn't really get anywhere asking for like a Robin in exchange for any of those on /r/amiiboSwap or anything. People generally only resort to /r/amiiboSwap if they SERIOUSLY can't find one, or they have spare rares/unicorns they want to get rid of.

You might get away with say, a Mario and a Lucario, for a Robin though. Just as an example. Some people will accept common Amiibos in trades if it comes with a semi-rare or above Amiibo.

In fact, my local Smyths is apparently a gold mine in general right now, according to the online stock tracker (which has never failed me before). I don't have the money to buy anything (I'm hoping Dark Pit lasts until next week, and maybe Rosalina too, so I can nab them), but I might take a trip down tomorrow to see just how glorious it looks.

Quite surprising, since they severely downgraded the stock for the last few months compared to the Christmas period. This was what it looked like in March:

Not necessarily. Pituvision got both Ness and Dedede despite strolling in late.

It's worth a shot to see if they have anything at all really, especially for a first time hunter.

My newbie optimism is showing.

In hindsight, even some of my Would Settles aren't even that demanding to me. I'd pretty much be buying them as companions to games I have/want or for more enticing trade bait when their value goes up when restocks peter out.

But my Generals I'd buy at least 1 of for the sake of introducing me to amiibo in the widest degree of value. I've been on the fence about buying an amiibo for a tremendously long time. So it would be easy getting a common Mario series character since they work with most major games. Yet what they offer me is so bleak, especially with my current Wii U lineup (Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8). For both, the content are cosmetic bonuses or can be experienced without them. And I'm adamant on buying something like Mario Party 10 just to have more use for them. Suppose my expectations already justify my stubborness.

Kirby and pals and the Fire Emblem crew at least warrant themselves in sentimental collector's value. Whilst I'm not crazy in how they were incorporated, the Kirby characters give me an enhanced challenge for my rainy day purchase of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. The Fire Emblem characters incorporate amiibo the best by far; unique playable units that grow as you use them and develop a connection towards. It's like how the Skylanders figures are so appealing; malleable to the game while growing an attachment to them.

Where I live they're all going to end up either being rare or uncommon. I definitely know that the Retro characters will end up being rare. Especially Mr. Game and Watch.
