oh my i had the perfect opportunity to tonight but failed to record anything at all. KDJ came by (he goes to my university) and ***** us all. would have been nice to get some feedback from you all/him, but everybody wanted to play him a dozen times, so i couldn't really ask him any questions about stuff. i'll try to post some vids. i'm the worst of my friends even though i'm nearly the only one who does any advanced techniques. it's kind of miserable at times to practice as much as i do and yet still get owned.

but anyway, enough rambling. if there's an opportunity to record video, i certainly will.

@ Itakio: It seems as though you have a good idea as to how to deal with Sheik. Keeping the pressure on her and never relinquishing it is the way to go. I would work on your edgeguarding though; when you DThrow Sheik's off the edge (people in general, actually), they'll want to use their double jump and sweetspot the edge to avoid the dreaded FSmash. Try FSmashing anyway; if you time it well enough, you'll get a tipper and a free stock. Also, if you think you're opponent's going to come up with an attack, DAir'ing near the edge should put an end to that. In general though, you played solidly.

For the thread itself: I don't think people should post videos of themselves playing computers; it's no good doing combos on a dummy that doesn't DI properly.

Anyways, I have a match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpUCcJZ0I8g

@capn - I really think you should get a better opponent, because quite frankly, the Peach player wasn't very good. I didn't see much D-smashing, but instead F-smashing, and he never caught on to your aerial attacks... Maybe I'm missing something, but you should look into finding more people to play.

@metroid - What I saw was good, but I'm skeptical to give you too much praise because of the DI issue your opponent had with the giant combo on his 3rd stock. Even still, you played pretty good, with good use of the dair. If I had one piece of advice it would be not to dash dance in such small intervals. Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to control once my opponent actually does something and I need to punish them.

New video up here - http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mjoja3ZtC8I

There were a few capturing errors for some reason, but they only happen in the very beginning and the very end. In this one, I got 3 pretty good executed KOs (finisher-wise, two dairs and a tipper).

In general, using an attack from the edge (other than the getup attack) is called an edgehop. The easiest way to edgehop attacks is to (1) press "away" or down with the control stick (people like "away" better because there's a reduced risk of fastfalling to your doom), (2) jump as soon as you let go of the edge, and (3) do your attack when you want to. In this case, to edgehop Marth's DAir, I would recommend pressing and holding down on the control stick and then sliding your thumb over the Y and A button. Holding down will drop you from the edge, Y will make you jump, and because you are holding down, pressing A will make you spike. After you spike, be sure to move towards the stage so you can land on it.

Anyways, the second DAir was beautiful. The only thing that puzzles me is why you roll instead of wavedash; I didn't see any wavedashes in that video. Waveshielding would've helped you when your opponent started needle spamming.

To capncone,

I am really surprised that you wavedash but you do not dashdance. Dashdancing is far more important at your level than wavedashing is. You need to learn how to move around with Marth. Your movements are very jerky. Learn to shffl your fair (if you plan on doing one) much later. Unless they run up to you and your forced to fair early you want to try to fair as low to the ground as you can effectively get it. This enables you to be able to fair and dash behind them before they can even grab you. You seem to just be starting out, so I really recommend since you have already put wavedashing in your style of play to make sure you don't wavedash for no reason. Wavedash back if you think he is going to rush you and that sort of stuff.

I personally think you should post a new thread and ask for critique rather than use this thread itself. You will get more people to watch them and critique you that way. Single threads asking for a bunch of critiques for different players just creates confusion and get too long.

im guessing youre the red marth in the first vid, is that right? (correct me if i'm wrong) learn to DI because youre always rolling towards an attack. and also you should ledge guard more often to reduce the chances of your opponent getting back on the stage.

OK thanks for the advice. I've never been to a tournament or anything so I haven't had much or and experience against players who are way better than me. I did try making a thread for help but I only got one or two replies. Maybe I'll try again...

tyjets - You should learn how to l-cancel your aerials and fastfall more. You used FSmash too much, along with plain DAir spiking - you should try leading into it with a FAir.

i only saw ur first vid, didnt feel like watching all of them but from what i could see
-fsmash too much, their were many oppurtunties where you could have grab and start a combo but instead u fsmash
- having said that, grab more for starting combos, i didnt check if u jc ur grabs but u should
- u might want to use the c-stick sometimes, u fastfalled to ur death doing a daerial
- i think there is something wrong with your controller, it seems like u have trouble going under a platform
this isnt everything, these are just a few tips
