I know it doesn't have the most accurate rating system but it was still fun nonetheless. I think people should use it. Anyone wanna help get it started again?

I argued hard for it in the back room. It's certainly still better than any other ladder we've ever used.

I'll ask someone on allisbrawl to reset the ladder and I'll advertise it on kaillera.

Sorry for double post, I talked to some people who run AIB and they say the ssb64 ladder has been discontinued so I'm not sure if they will bring it back or not.

edit: one of the admins on AIB said this: "The SSB64 Ladder has minimal usage, so it's being replaced with ladders that will draw much more attention. It's highly unlikely that it'll be returning in the future."

oh well

I suggested Marc a ladder system that can be hosted here on Smashboards for both Brawl and 64. I think Jaxel (owner of 8wayrun.com, and the neat tournament RSVP feature you see now) has a ladder system as well, but I don't think he'd give it out for free.
Could you link me to the ladder that jaxel has. Also, does anyone know any other sites that have ladder systems?

Ladders are fun, however, SSB ladders will always die out (in due time) because:
- lag & delay sucks
- most people don't want their ego officially crushed, so they don't play at all
- laziness to play
- the top players don't even join them

Response: The one Jel made hasn't died out completely!
Counter-Response: That thread gets like 4 matches a month and half of those matches are battlecow/star king matches

Response: The brawl ladder hasn't died out!
Counter-Response: lol online brawl players

One of the biggest problems with ladders is that it seems like a lot of work just to get matches going. At any one point you can only challenge like 4 people, and who knows which of those people are already challenged or have schedules that intersect with yours. I think it would be better if you could just play a serious set whenever you happen to find someone from the ladder online, and then report the results. Maybe that is what ladders with rating systems do? If so, then I would participate. I would love to get some serious sets in online, I just don't have the irl schedule to set matches beforehand, which I imagine is the case for many of us.

Its just much easier to play someone, then report the results, than it is to challenge someone, and then set up the perfect time to play them.

Also, if a ratings ladder is set up, people's ratings should decrease over time if they don't play matches. That can use ego's against players forcing them to play more or drop in the rankings.

It seems like online smash is slowly moving away from competitiveness and that bothers me. Yes, I know online is fake compared to console because of delay and lag but that doesn't mean it can't be competitive. In the past people were always willing to do tournaments and ladders but now people just don't wanna be bothered with them it seems.

That's reasonable. Well if you just want higher player turnout put up some $ (as you already have), then advertise widely.

The more $ the more players (except in places where it's illegal, cough Japan cough)

I actually messaged everyone on the compendium for one of my tourneys, had like 30 confirm only to have 10or so show up.

First you gotta get the $, then the confirmations, then the women (ssb players)

Have 1 day tourneys

The problem i keep hearing abou it is "having everyone in the same place on the same day". But i say after you have all the slots taken in a bracket or whatever, set the date to that following weekend.....don't show, get dq'd.

What did they respond with when you suggested it? I'm sure it's possible to implement a ladder system on smashboards if allisbrawl can do it.

I might try a 8 player, 1 day tournament soon to see if that works then expand it if it's successful.

I'm am all for 1 day tournaments, I just think planning them ahead of time is a bit tough. I think what people should do is spontaneously create tournaments with whoever is online at the time. Kinda my same thoughts with regards to the ladder. Its very hard for people to plan ahead a week in advance to be on kaillera at a specific time. Things come up, and I don't really blame people for not showing/not signing up because they aren't sure they can make it.

If people recall Nintendude had made some rating system that TO's could provide results to and the ratings would be calculated accordingly. I tried (though not very hard) to make spontaneous 4 man tournies a thing that people would do and report to that thread. Thread in question

I see no reason why people couldn't report tourney results to this, or even why people couldn't just report "serious" matches to this and have them effect their ratings as long as both players agreed to it before hand.

To the single day online tournaments, me, Matt, and maybe 4 others I know have tried to host them multiple times and they never work out properly.
There have only been 2/3 exceptions with each of them having only 6 to 12 people.

I mean, I would host one but if people don't join I don't see a point

In term of LolisBrawl, well, it is a brawl website and we seem to have a negative connotation to that game. A good majority of the forum here either does not have an account there or is so inactive they might as well not have one. Wish we had a normal one on here or if it could be installed on here. Would make it feasible.

How about someone good at making this stuff implement it somewhere, and people agree to donate to them for their troubles.

The algorithm's for rating systems are already out there (ELO for one), there really just needs to be a place where you can enter wins and losses and your new rating will automatically be calculated. Another option would be for someone to just make a thread and do all of the updating manually, but that sounds like a pain in the ass. But then again, what else am I doing all day...

Hmmm I was this close to making a ratings ladder thread, but I just recently bumped the SBR rating project thread, which basically does the same thing. People who are asking for a ranked ladder should try to use that thread before they do anything else. Idk if nintendude would be willing to do 1v1's, and not just tournies, but its worth a shot. If he doesn't want to do that I might try it out.

Also, here is the source code of a project that basically ranked melee players. Can anyone here do anything with this?

Don't bother with that. Sveet is in the process of making an improved version that will be embedded on Smashboards. We can ask Sveet if we can use that for 64 as well.
sounds real cool. Would be a great idea

Any idea when this embedded ladder will be up on smashboards?

Also, in case anyone cares, Allisbrawl completely got rid of the ssb64 ladder and replaced it with a project m ladder. Kinda seems like we took that ladder for granted and now its gone. Don't know how good you have it until it's gone.
