It definitely is a terrible feeling when all of your hard-earned game saves are lost forever. I had this happen to me many times during my N64 days and I have taken precautions ever since. Always make backups with multiple memory cards; it is a very wise investment. I currently have my Smash Bros Melee save on 3 different memory cards.

That's 42 days IN ONE game. I don't think COLLECTIVELY I've played 1000 hours. The most ever in one game was Oblivion with 100 hours when I'd leave it run while I went to work.
