Well, hi everyone. This is my first blog post so go easy on me.

Recently I auditioned for a character called Moist, for a play version of the Dr.Horrible musical. http://www.hulu.com/watch/28343/dr-horribles-sing-along-blog (US viewers only) and I'm having problems with the whole deal. I know I am not a good actor and I can't sing (Moist doesn't sing thank goodness) so I was wondering if anyone could have suggestions for how to get this character down and any general acting tips.

Why did you audition for something you knew you couldn't do?

Moist doesn't have too big a part iirc. Practice his lines into a mirror and video tape yourself when you think you have it down.

The way to get better at acting is to persevere. Find someone who can give you feedback and rehearse with him/her. You also need to distance yourself from you. Don't act like the character, be the character, then you will have no problem. You won't get too nervous and your acting should sound natural. Being comfortable while acting is the first barrier you have to get through. If you are scared, you won't put enough energy into it, and the result won't be good.

For example, back in May I started voice acting for flash productions and machinimas and the like on youtube and other places. Even though I was an actor before this, I still hated hearing my voice on a recording. It made me want to flinch each time I listened to something I had recorded. The only way I grew out of this was to plow on through it. After a while, you just get used to it, and your self-consciousness will leave you, allowing you to act naturally.

TL;DR, keep trying and actively seek feedback from others.
