i'm havng trouble with a very very campy and fast fox but the worst thing about this fox is his excessive use of run to up smash. in my opinion its the most broken smash in the game, it comes out unbelievably fast and its his most powerful move. at start of match i get laser spammed then when i finally get in his face he side b's to the other side then lasers spams. this goes on continually until he sees an opening when i'm approaching him then he runs and up smashes me. the run to up smash is the ultimate counter for marths f air. ive played against very good, campy falco's and they dont frustrate me half as much as this fox

I think you're just having trouble dealing with a pattern.

If you can explain his entire style in a paragraph, you can probably deal with it in 3 or 4 moves and two approaches.

i think the problem is my approach. sometimes i find myself during a match to be absolutely clueless on how to approach a character. usually its fair or neutral air toward them

Try not approaching through the air then. Use your walk to shield for an approach, and if you see he is about to do his run to up smash either counter or try to use an ftilt. It seems to me like you are being way too predictable, but so is he.

Switch to pikachu. Down throw chain grab until they're around 80%. Up smash. If they have bad DI you can thunder too.

Seriously I think Fox is unplayable in a tournament because of this reason if you're counterpicking. Just get half decent with Pikachu and now you have a move that takes them to 80% every time. Pikachu is also pretty good on approach so this turns out to be pretty easy to set up.

As for Marth... you're probably using laggy attacks and not spacing properly which is making it easy for the fox to punish you, but fox's running up smash isn't broken. Beyond that I can't say much because you don't have a video and your description is not detailed.

Thanks for mentioning that Junk. I might actually try Pikachu now just because of that. As for the problem handling that Fox, why not trick him by doing short hop dancing blade. This move lets you hover in the air a little longer and it can trick him into doing a Fox illusion or whatever. You will have to figure out how to effectively use this though because I'm not sure how he will react. You can also just walk up to him and whip out a counter since the lazers will be hitting you (he eats 8% damage just for trying to give you 1%). If he wises up to this, just spam dancing blade as an approach.

If he laser's you do a full jump to get close to him but but not too close to be in his F-smash range. This will stop him from lasering you as if he doesn't he will eat a F-air, as Fox has cool down to put his gun away. If he stops lasering which he most likely will , you can react to what he does. If he pulls his laser out again you can F-air . If he does Foward -B do A short hop back ward and over or run and punish him with Dancing blade when he reappears. Getting him is easy if he abuses Phantasm if you space yourself right in the middle of where Fox would travel in his phantasm you can rush him after he reappears with Dancing blade.

About his Smashes. If you have +100% he WILL go for a finishing blow. Just knowing that will help you counter his Smashes by blocking/spot dodging, countering, or a F-Smash. The best thing about Fox dash into Up b is its really quick. But if you keep in your mind that he WILL be going for a up smash it'll be easy to predict and punish. So just keep in mind he will go for the kill when you have +100% and itll be easy to counter.

Other than that. You do have the range advantage so just practice your spacing and you shouldn't have too many problems after you got those down. just practice practice practice and youll eventually get him.
