Ah, well, it's that time of year. If you have a girl, it's a day of celebration and/or spending money. If not, it's just another reminder that you're single. Unfortunately, I'm one of the later, but I'ld still like to do something this year, so I'm writing this on-the-spot (seriously, typing it in my blog is the first time it's been written, so it's all off the top of my head). It is in dedication to the girl who has taken my breath away with an incredible intelligence, kindness, talent, and beauty. Whether or not she realizes it, she means the world to me. Hopefully one day, I'll be able to tell her that.

Because It Is You For Whom I Care

Killed was my heart
An arrow tore it apart
But nay, it is truly alive
Now more than ever before
For I now realize who I truly adore

Actions on my part shall be delayed
For circumstances would stand in my way
I shall not make so much as a longing stare
My feelings are hidden, for this romance is "forbidden"
Regardless of how much I care

Repaired, my soul was
And that is because
I have you to inspire me
With wit, kindness, and unmatched beauty
There is none other in the world like thee

Evermore shall my enamorement last
All other affections in my past
I could hold on to this forever as if it were life's air
Though my feelings are hidden, and this romance "forbidden"
Regardless of how much I care

Never shall I be melancholy again
For despite my limitations, it is my desire to win
Though my feelings are hidden, and this romance "forbidden"
I shall not despair
Because it is you for whom I care

Well done. If you are really planning on telling her how you feel one day, this should be the way you say it!

There's a trick to this poem too, organization wise. It all revolves around that. It's simple enough, but can you spot it? (MYM'ers don't count, some of them already know.)

Well I certainly don't think of myself as a poet. This is my first serious one, in fact.

Anyway, it seems like noone has been able to figure out the trick. I've already told a fair number of people what it is, so I may just as well spoil it.

The first letter of each stanza goes together to spell out her name. This organizational tidbit was the foundation of the whole poem. Once I had that part of my organization set, all I needed to do was find the fitting words to match my feelings and the poem itself.

Something I wrote for English IV. The assignment was to write a sonnet, a type of poem that I hate for it's clicheness and general cheesiness.. but I feel like in the 10-15 minutes I spent on this poem, it turned out well.

Did'st Thou Know

Did'st thou know
That for all these years
I have loved thee so
To thine qualities I am endeared

Many and many a man
Claims to love thee
But none can love thee like I can
For I love more than just your beauty

Thine beauty is indeed worth many a stare
But there is more than that to catch mine eye
Thine virtue is beyond compare
Indeed such value can only be found in that place beyond the sky

Our love is strong like steel and like light is pure
But for now I can but keep it in my heart and let it endure
