A theoretically stupid question

So I was watching that Mew2King combo video, and I noticed something. At about 3:47, he does a full hop uair on Yoshi's Story, and manages to end up standing on top of the top platform. I just spent the last five or ten minutes timing the uair at different points in my full hop and i cannot get Marth to land on top of the platform. Is there some trick I'm missing?

He didn't go straight to standing. He was in the normal landing position first and just did an l-cancel after the uair.

Watch it again and you will see what I mean.

Well yeah but that's not what I mean. I mean when I do a full hop uair, I don't get onto the platform at all. I don't get enough height out of it.

I think you're right. After watching it a few times, you can see what looks like the start of a second jump, immediately followed by a Uair
