Hello, I am Phloat, and I am fairly new to the tournameny scene..

Here is the problem, I am going to INNsomnia in 2 months.... And I do not have a "Main"

Should I focus on having a lot of good characters, or one great one, or two above average ones...

And which of these could be ready for a tournament the fastests, *note* I know that I cannot just start playing a character and win a tourney, I am fairly good with these characters, I can WD, combo smoothly, have good mindgames (I believe they exists, anywho) and am familiar with how they should be used (metagame)

Here is the list

Fox- Have good combos, waveshine smoothly, A semi camping strat, lasers everywhere (when I cannot be punished) and suddenly I go all offencive, seems to have a good effect..

Falco- SHL, RSHL, waveshine, WD, Fair combos, I need to work on the L cancel (Don't laugh, I get it 100% with everyone else, and 90% with him, they just fail when it is critical)

Marth- Need to work on spacing, bad combos, good fakeouts and baiting, great L cancel( 100%) sweetspots come easy...

Falcon- Good combos, fun techchase into grab, L cancel locked in, I know when to THE KNEE..

So, that is it :lick: If you have any suggestions on who I would do best in the tourney with, please say so, and I know I can't win, especially if MikeG and Darkrain show up *shudders*

Anyways, thanks for the help...!

two or three above average ones should work fine for you, it seems that only a few real well-known tourney players (i.e. chudat, azen) stray from this formula

Ending your game.
Yeah, there's no need to limit yourself to a certain # of characters. And don't think you need your mains to mostly consist of top tiers. Everyone's got their strength and weaknesses, with some being more notable than others. It's a matter of personal taste, you know? Take me for example: all of my mains are nowhere near close to the top, but I still get by. You'll just need to spend time with whomever you choose and get some experience.

that tourney its 2 months away and you want to do well on that tournament, well, pick one character that is hardly countered, like fox or marth, and focus on him from now on 2 months, then you can have time to play good with a lot of characters

It is good to center yourself in temrs of skill level with certain characters, then you can focus more on their strengths and weaknesses.

Going to INN V, eh? I'll see you there, then. Thank God you're not a Peach or a Sheik player...

I'd say to choose 2 or 3 people and make sure that they're good. It's always better to have more then one character you're good at, but to spread your practice into 5 different characters is a bit much.

Play three to four matches with every character you have. Then narrow it down to who you won with. Then play another match with the leftovers.Choose the top 2-3 that you feel you can do good with.
Dont just try to master a popular tourny character.
I used this to get my mains of

Falco,Roy,Ganondarf and Ness

Yes,I main with ness.

This had me wondering. I main zelda AND sheik. Would they count as two different mains or one? Its weird since the zelda and shiek boards were split. :)

Um...what?

I used to main Ness...after I mained Fox, Ganon, Falcon, Peach, back to Fox (discovered advanced techs), etc....

Now I'm Ganon/Link, and working on picking up Marth.

No, they count as different characters mainly because they each have a different move set.

yeah, its beter to have 2-3 good mains.

Me, I use Falco and CF.

Its especially good when your secondary covers a really bad matchup for your main.

^^^

Exactly. That's why I, a Ganon main, have decided to pick up a new character so that I can take out Falcos and Sheiks.

And then I have my Link for fun. :-D

Main 3 or more characters that are good at countering a good variety of characters. I don't know the match up charts for the 4 characters you named so I can't tell you which 3.
