I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been playing Melee alot this week and I've been thinking about stuff. So here goes:

How does one deal with pressure/aggression while, at the same time, continue to maintain it?

force your opponent to the edge of the stage.
be able to fall back and play defensively until you can shift the momentum.
be able to reset the neutral position.
get important techskill down (SHFFLs, wavedashes/lands, ledgedashes, shine OoS or shine->grabs for species, etc)
learn your defensive game. (2nd time I said this lol)

sooo yea, thats all I got. I think it's relatively character dependent too.

damn vanir, ur wrecking these boards up! in a good way :)

i def think its char dependent. like, i play samus so its alot of bait and wait for a mistake. like say fox is doing crap all over the stage. eventually, hopefullu, he'll dive in and i'll wavedash back and dsmash. now i try to take control. or he's beating my shield and i up-b oos. that resets things to the neutral position.

vanir has smartly pointed out to me that i often give up the center of the stage tho. u cant wavedask back if there's no more stage. dont get pushed around. oos game is really important in standing ur ground. also, outspacing and knowing move priority will help u gain control.

typically, i like to bait with my movement and outproritize/cc to find an opening (my spacing game isnt great).

here's another samus sequence: fox is going around all crazy (i'm on defense), he comes in with a nair and some jabs > crouch cancel dsmash. if he jumps and comes right back for more > up-b oos. or i chase if tries to reset to neutral.

know ur oppenent/MUs. and know those go-to moves that can stop an approach/reset the game to neutral. IMO samus matches are a great way to learn about pressure switches. samus cant go offensive very well. she relies on mistakes/read or whatever to switch the momentum and get a kill hopefully :)
(little samus love there)

Keep in mind, you cannot play aggressive the entire game.
And many MUs are very difficult to play aggressive in at all (even for spacies), so you don't always need to look for a way to out-agress your opponent. Strong defense mixed with smart aggression (and the ability to switch between the two quickly/smoothly) is the way to go, but not all characters can do this.

I think I've put in jus about all that I can in this topic now, so I feel like better players should give some input if Gunpunch or myself missed anything important.

And yea, I've been posting a lot recently lol. I don't have a job right now, so I'm just practicing all day and the coming on the boards when I get bored... Sooo... Post count ends up getting multiplied xD
