d/w about winning or losing just play to learn
ask questions, ask for advice, ask what you're doing wrong/could be doing better

I went to my first real tournament last week. I found I wasn't nervous at all after playing some friendlies, but the first few friendlies I played against good people made me pretty nervous. I forgot basic things like dash dancing, chain throwing, z grabs...

ive come to the conclusion is that the less you think about that and just focus on the game and think about how much you love playing the game, and how much fun the match youre about play is going to be.
and yes these things come with experience. and its also harder when youre new and have so much to prove. once youve cemented youre place in the (local) community it gets alot easier. i still suck at this stuff, but im better then i used to be

I've attended two Melee tournaments thus far, and I've had a bit of a problem at both. Whenever I play someone that I've never met, even if it's just friendlies, I get incredibly nervous because I'm afraid I'll do bad and look like a total noob.
Well that's too bad son, because that's how people learn. Trial and error.

You will look like a total noob whether you like it or not and there's nothing wrong with that so you might as well accept it and learn from the ******* mistakes you make and will definitely make in the future.

Sounds all true, but it's just too bad some of the skilled people actually make fun of you behind your back. Not just teasing either. Oh well.
