A bit of Marth trouble

I play Marth as one of my mains, but the problem is I seemed to have hit a wall in my progress. At boarding school many people played Smash, but only 3 or 4 were any good. I myself was one of the better players and would dominate all but my friend who plays Shiek (and in my humble opinion is a very good player despite the fact he does not shffl or wavedash). I know how to shffl and wavedash, but I frequently forget to L-cancel and fastfall and almost never wavedash in an actual game. My friends say that Marth is cheap because of his sword and is lame because anyone can win with him by using his F-smash.

They also laugh at me for looking up strategys on the internet and scoff at shffling and wavedashing, also labeling useless (because I cannot use it effectively).

Now in the summertime I cannot play with my friends, only the computer, but it is so easy to beat and annoying. The closest place to play smash with others is two hours away (a distance I am not overjoyed to drive) and my skills, meager as they already were, are degrading.

My question is this: How can I improve when I have never actually played with someone who shffls and wavedashes effectively, and when the computer does not fall for the mind games of wavedashing? I always have to resort to simply F-smashing the computer and not ever wavedashing.

WHAT IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF TRAINING WHEN I CANNOT PLAY HUMANS AND AM GETTING TIRED OF BOTS?

I already watch profesional matches, what else should I do?

One thing where do you live? I'm pretty sure if you looked at the regional tournaments you would find some in your area. Then at those tournaments you could find better people to play near you. You can learn to shffl properly on level 1 cpus though. So i recommend messing around with that. I like comboing Marth or Mario lvl 1 cpus and doing pillar combos with falco against fox when i'm playing alone for a bit. I play alot of tourneys now though, and that is the majority of my experience.

I am two hours away from the nearest gathering of smashers and without a car

I am currently trying to find out if anyone closer in GA would like to play, but so far to no avail.

If you can't find anyone to play then, I'm sorry, but you will hit a limit that you can't surpass. You need good people to play against to improve. This is a fact.

If you lack these things, there is a level that is beyond your reach. if I were you I would just go to the regional forum for your area and just look around until you find something.

But your friends aren't good for your development either. You need a good training environment too. Not people who laugh at you when you try to bring your game up to the next level.

Actually...there is something you can do. I am a good Marth player and before I met/trained with ROK (best player in Bermuda) I use to practice SHFFL and wavedashing all alone in training mode for hours. Fighting other people DOES help...but you gota master some things on your own, alone in training mode. My opinion, its best to master wavedashing and SHFFL (oh and spacing) by yourself. Then when you finally find some people to play you can test your practicing on them. But hey, everyone has their methods. Don't just sit home and don't play at all...now THAT will be a waste of time. You really wana be a good player? Do some SHFFL nairs, spaced fairs, wavedashing in training mode. If you want it bad enough...I think you'll do it.

For the most part your right on the dot, but how are you suppost to master spacing with a CPU.

You are indeed correct...fighting a CPU for spacing is pointless. But that is not what I meant. lol. This is how I practice spacing with Marth, well the double fair anyway. I just select a CPU in training and make it stand there. Then I perform the double fair, and get into the habit of pulling back and using the C-Stick. for my second fair. I'm perfectly aware a CPU can't DI, but that doesn't bother me. My goal is for my Marth to be spaced and it works. ^^

But thank you for pointing that out though, that was vague of me to just say spacing. I should have said what I meant. My bad. :p

don't let them bother u, my "normal friends" which i go out with ..club,, girls blah blah blah,,, they also made fun of me ( i was the worst of all of us at smash) so then i start searching on the internet all this advance techs, and they kept laughing until i master them, now i can do a 3vs1 match against them and win. I had the same problem as u, i didn't had any other people to play with, but then i went to a tournament on my country and got some friends, now i am one of the best players around here (Mexico) so jut keep it going

note: i trained with CPU's when i had no1 to play with, imagining they where humans, doing wavedash sash dance and all the stuff as if it was an actual fight with a human and trying to don't make habits, it help me out
