I REALLY don't see the appeal of 8-player smash.
I don't even like playing with more than THREE players. It gets too hectic. How the hell would you even be able to focus on anything with EIGHT players running around?

Now, personally, I dunno if I'd have any use for this, since the chances of me being able to meet up with 7 of my irl friends while they (or me) actually aren't busy are slim (plus I think have just under the amount of controllers I'd need for that). But HEY, I'm all for this! Especially since so many people seem to be so paranoid that the Wii U version won't have enough of its own exclusive modes (for some reason). Like, the more the merrier, right?

With this, we can now pit entire franchises against one another, like The Legend of Zelda vs. Fire Emblem, Kirby vs. Kid Icarus, etc.

A heroes vs. villains battle also could then work on a larger scale, such as Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pit vs. Bowser, Ganondorf, King Dedede, and Dark Pit.

Wow, I just realized we can make the original Smash Bros 64 starting roster fight eachother.

I always thought that smash should allow you to do 6 or 7 characters smash because you can do that in melee and brawl respectively. The fact that you can do 6 player smash in melee, minus being able to control the latter 2 character is what made it appeal to me. When I invite a bunch of friends, the player amount is usually more than 4 so we have to keep switching controllers but if all of us can play at once, then that would be chaotic.

I think that this is pretty much confirmed because we have the audio file, the P1-8 signs, and the fact that the 4 stock/head icons have space for another 4 in the stage selection screen as Meelow and Smashoperatingsystem123 have demonstrated.

I wonder if they will have 4 v 4 tournaments, even as side events in tournaments. Probably not.

One more thing, maybe it's possible that they have another form for stages for 4 player stages. They've already used the final letter of the greek letter, Ω, hmm why not Я the last letter of Russian. :p

I was thinking that 8 players would be for like a tourney or something... There could be up to 8 players so it's easier to keep track of everyone. I feel like 8 player smash would just be too much to keep up with...

There's a lot of evidence that supports 8-player Smash. Large stages and blast zones in general, 8 costumes per character, 4 USB ports on the Wii U (GCN adapter takes 2, 4 GCN controllers; buy another GCN adapter for 8 GCN controllers), Yellow Team for 2v2v2v2. The 3DS definitely would not be able to handle it, they couldn't even get the Ice Climbers to work of all things.

The Wii U version is very likely, if not certainly, to have its own exclusive modes, so 8-player Smash can be one. Just because it's unused in the 3DS version doesn't mean we should rule it out. There's also Special Smash and Event Match announcer voices, a staple in Melee/Brawl but not in the 3DS version (but Smash Run uses many elements of both) so there's that too.

You can play a maximum of 8 players but you can play 5 players o maybe 6 this is like normal, you can play maximum of 4 but you an play 3 players

Would be cool to see all 8 of Bowser's children beating each other.
Also, Super Mario Bros. is the only franchise which can fill this 8-player battle without using alts.
Mario vs. Luigi vs. Peach vs. Bowser vs.Yoshi vs. Rosalina & Luma vs. Wario vs. Bowser Jr.

Pokémon would be able too if it wasn't for the fact that half the Pokémon characters have been cut.

Was taking a look at the texture dump from the 3DS version and noticed this image, I believe it hasn't been brought up before.

Looks to me 8 Player mode is quite likely to be really confirmed. Wonder why there are art of characters along with the numbered positions though...

If 8-Player Smash isn't confirmed on Thursday I'm going to be a little more doubtful.

To me, it's probably something they'll want to promote the living hell out of (much like Smash Run.)

I'm all for this. I think it's kinda lame how people are like well it's too much to handle. Well it is a lot to handle but if it's too much for you, then we know who's coming in 8th place. As long as the stage isn't too small where all 8 players start off within each others attack range then it should work.

8 player smash sounds like a separate mode so there are probably gonna be things that come along with it.
I think if you're gonna have an 8 player mode than the stages should be bigger. Maybe have a final destination and battlefield that are bigger than normal just for this mode as well as having Hyrule and Palutena's Temple which both already seem big enough to accommodate 8 players.

In addition to the final destination mode, there could be an 8 players smash mode for some stages. I wouldn't expect all stages to have an 8 player size option. Just some.

Plus with the stage builder confirmed you can make huge stages for 8 player smash too.

Can't see there being a 8 player free for all...it just doesn't seem possible. Thursday will hopefully confirm or de confirm this mode.

Back to the subject...the direct didn't mention you could play 3v3 or 4v4? Anyone know I you can or not?

This is going to be insanely fun, having all the boys being able to play at the same time, all the different reactions from different battles going on in the match :grin:

Although, playing 4 player smash wont be the same I feel :ohwell:
