I think this idea might not even cross there minds, I mean a wii can only hold four controllers,(unless they jam the gamecube controllers in there also), which means online only. I don't see a way they can fix the lag, it's all about someones own internet connection.

It would be nice but honestly I don't care. Sakurai has already done so much for us that now I feel like I'm taking advantage of him. If we were only to get what he has shown us now, I'd be content.

I think he meant there would still only be 4 human players but you could have 4 more comp players.

You could do like an ultimate battle with a bunch of comps. You could turn their level down (6 comps against you would be impossible on level 9 anyways).

Let's look at Subspace for a second here: you can only have two people playing at a time, and yet there are a good amount of characters to choose from on most levels we have seen. Why not four?
Lag. Exactly what everyone else has been saying.
It would be cool to have EPIC smash but it probably won't happen.

4 vs. 4 everyone use ice climbers

large brawl, super mushrooms on very high

I think it would be cool if 4 vs. 4 were possible online, but only with tiny melee... it would make for a very interesting fight. Imagine you and 3 friends vs. 4 people somewhere else, brawling it out.

8 Ice Climbers = 16 people on-screen.
This could cause lag easily.

They could have 8 players linking wii's together. Really this is something that would be pretty cool but just won't happen most likely.

Something wierd is play-asia says that it is 8 player over wifi

"in the first 2 instalments you could only have up to 4 players but because of the Wii's Wifi enablement you can now play with up to 7 other players."

R.M.B. were else?
4 vs 4 is asking for too much, that would be chaos, maybe if smash brothers went 3d(movement) then there is a possibility, but not when its 2d, right now 1 vs 3, 2 vs 2, and 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 is enough.

No...
I'm pretty sure it's because the camera only follows one person, and four would be confusing, annoying, and jumbled up.
