Here the section of the forum where i found out about it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157914&page=1101

Here the site that they claim that famitsu said it would take 240 hrs to beat it w/ all character:

http://ruliweb2.empas.com/ruliboard...ext=%B4%EB%B3%AD%C5%F5&time=1209600&num=14201

My speculation: the only reason why it would take this long is that there like 40+ character and/or the re-playability because there might be different path to choose from.
I think it might be the "replayablility" bit, because unless you haven't seen the videos, you switch between characters throughout the story (you don't beat it with every single character). One run-through on easy should take about 10 hours, but you can unlock more by going on different paths and on higher difficulties...

Wisconsin...yay that place no one has ever heard o
Lets do a quick pretend melee check, 25 characters, if it takes like 15 minutes to beat adventure mode, 25*15/60=6.25 hours to beat adventure mode in melee with all characters.

If you could choose what character you wanted, and per character story line it took 10 hours to beat, it could take 240hrs to beat if there were a mere 24 charcters to choose.

I have to point out that this is a cinamatic game, my guess is that if it was in fact 240 hours, like 10 of those hours would be cutscenes, but you would be repeating a lot of cut scenes, so if you skip those it could be lower than they are saying.

There is now a save button so you can rest assured that it won't be a 20 minute game, but I doubt that it will be 240 hours. Off topic, it looks like they've changed the map around a bit.

No they did not change the map, they just gave us the full screen. Possibly to hide the stickers update.

Must be a typo, 24 hours seems much more likely. Fifty hours is usually considered a huge amount, and very rarely is seen outside of RPGs - I can't imagine a single mode in a game like Smash Bros taking that long.

Yeah it was definitely ME who found this information, about a half-hour before you did in the "Temporary Leaks" thread.

How is this going to work out? For "all characters"...? It's already revealed to us that you have to use every character in one run of Subspace Emissary...(at least, that's what I think)

Unless!

The character you play the most ends up being your "Main" for the storyline and you get their ending? That sounds understandable. Otherwise, I don't know how it's going to work out if any other options.

240 Hours wtf, thats crazy there must be a mistranslation although I hope it isnt, funny how the thing says mind control yet it doesnt mention Ganondorf, could it be that his selfishness prevents him being mind controlled if so thats staying true to his character. Maybe Ganondorf plays both sides against each other now that would be sweet

Methinks they are multiplying the amount of hours by the amount of characters that we know of now. 24 X 10 = 240.

Games always inflate the number of hours to advertise how much game play is packed into it. It's very frequent to see RPGs advertising 40, 60, or even 80 hours of "game play" when we **** well know most of them can be beaten in around 6 hours or 20 at a casual pace. Some players reach obscene hours of gameplay (like in FFX, or Suikoden 5) but this is due to sidequests, not the main game.

In this case, you're taking two inflated numbers to reach another inflated number. You're multiplying number of characters (which there are a lot of) by the expected time to finish the SSE (which is inflated), equaling a huge number no one should believe. You'll all be lucky if you get a 10-hour adventure mode. Very lucky indeed to get a 10-hour game considering part of the time inflation is due to people sucking at the game and playing through it a lot more slowly than we would after having played the game for a while. No one speeds through Chrono Trigger in 3.5 hours on his first time through after all.

THIS GAME IS OFFICIALLY ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!

Okay, back to a sceptical viewpoint - this could be epic fake, but assuming it is true that's, what, six hours per char assuming we have 40 of them? Yeah, that seems awesome, and I am guessing you won't have to deal with the multiple branches with every char for it to count as a whole completion.

Also, assuming it is true this means GOTG (Game of the Generation) confirmed FOR BRAWL! Heck, we are talking game of this and the next generation confirmed...

The only real problem with the 240 "limit" (if it is true) is that if chars go up, the length of SSE goes down and vice versa.

^^^^^^^

I think it's just them estimating with the current roster we have. 24 x 10 hours (presumably what Sakurai said) = 240 hours unless I'm mistaken.

When I think about it there is a chance some unimaginative person just added the 24 confirmed characters, multiplied with the ten-hour length we've heard so far and then added the common "Famitsu" stamp to it.

This is awesome and gets people in a tizzy, which is just what a trolling faker would throw around. Stay chilly and don't give them satisfaction.

I highly, HIGHLY doubt that the SSE is going to take over 2 hours. That's probably taking into account people dying and restarting a stage and such. You know, your average player. Not Smashboardians. No, we do stuff quickly and efficiently. Take whatever time they estimate it'll take to beat the game, throw in a decent gamer and they'll cut it in half. Zelda: TP was supposed to take what, 40 hours let's say? I beat it in about 16, even after doing a lot of sidequests. Game companies always blow up the number of hours that are needed because bigger numbers look prettier.

But 240 is a big big number, even if it's blown up. I mean, if it's more like 120 hrs it still is pretty darn impressive.

But I do think that it's a typo.

And I was planning on not playing SSE much, just to unlock characters and stages. But 240 hours......makes me wanna go deeper in it.

*kicks*

You guys have to remember that more hours mean more characters
Yes, but say you really wanted to unlock...I don't know Geno, or Ridley or whoever you really really really want in Brawl, and to do so you have to clear Subspace with every other character in the game or something and that takes a total of 10 days of playing time...wouldn't you be rather frustrated?

Now I'm extremely confused, and this may be a stupid question....

Do you have to play through SSE with different characters like the Adventure mode in Melee or is a single adventure that you switch through different characters in? This thread has me confused now

Doubt it, just by looking at the introduction you're forced already to playing Mario/Kirby, so you most likely will have to play all the characters as the story progresses.

As I said in my previous post. This could apply to the character you play the most. Once you've played the character enough in Adventure mode, you end up having to beat the game with that character and in the end you get their ending. If you want to play a different character, you have to start over.

It's just a theory that I think would be possible. Doubt it'll happen though. It could also be something like...different paths as everyone said and/or sidequests.

Wow. No game aimed towards little children as well as people our age would ever take 240 hours to beat. I'm sorry. Even with the potential sizes of a roster for this game, a Nintendo game would not peak 24-30 hours. Thirty hours would be impressive in my opinion for a Nintendo game with so much attraction honestly.

Especially if this is going to be one of the main ways to unlock characters.
