Yeah, Demi-Fiend is canonically a magic brawler with a focus on fire and almighty, according to Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He's rad as hell.

Cool. Not one of my most wanted, but I sure as hell won't complain if it ever happens. Good luck to you guys!Yeah, Demi-Fiend is canonically a magic brawler with a focus on fire and almighty, according to Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He's rad as hell.
Oh yeah, he's got a ton of animations to draw from. He's practically the... only SMT character to ever get any animations tied to him, including punches, kicks, shoves, summoned swords, katanas, energy balls, whatever demon stuff you can think of. Most everyone else gets are Pokemon-esque sprite effects for their moves.I don't know much about SMT, but that one dude with the Glowing Tattoos looks kind of neat. And I think he's mostly hand to hand, so that could be cool.
Thanks dude, at this point, we're gonna need all the luck we can get if we're going to see this game release before the end of this decade, haha.Cool. Not one of my most wanted, but I sure as hell won't complain if it ever happens. Good luck to you guys!
Hell yeah he's cool. What I love about him is that he perfectly represents the series' demons while also being his own unique thing.Yeah, Demi-Fiend is canonically a magic brawler with a focus on fire and almighty, according to Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. He's rad as hell.
Yeaaaaaaah, I was wondering if it was a bit too much when I realized...Demi-Feind does look sick. Now I'm hoping even more!
Though I guess it helps using DMC and Tekken gifs for some of the moves, to translate them a bit more properly into a fighting game.
He seems like a mix of a mage and a fighter from typical RPGs.
Yoooo, thank you so much for this.Nice dude, really like the expanded set! One thing worth noting though is that Demi-fiend has a confirmed voice actor due to the Japanese drama CD, Susumu Chiba. And the English voice actor from IV Apocalypse sounds like Bryce Papenbrook, though that's unconfirmed. He played Issachar in the original IV though, so it's not out of the question that he could have done a lot of miscellaneous voices for IV Apocalypse, or if they could have even reused stuff from IV.
Yeah that was weird. I'm not surprised we didn't get any mainline content, but Jack Frost seems like he'd be the most obvious candidate for being a spirit or a background stage element.Fellas, Joker dropped and his set is entirely Persona-specific, no Megami Tensei demons whatsoever. That makes me think there's still a possibility of SMT.
Does this mean:Fellas, Joker dropped and his set is entirely Persona-specific, no Megami Tensei demons whatsoever. That makes me think there's still a possibility of SMT.
Not to mention, and I had this thought looking at his moveset because it was something I was desperately hoping for:Fellas, Joker dropped and his set is entirely Persona-specific, no Megami Tensei demons whatsoever. That makes me think there's still a possibility of SMT.
*sees your avatar*Not even a single SMT nod, even Jack Frost, is a real kick in the ****. But Sakurai does what he pleases - legacy only matters when he feels like it.
Yes, I've been advocating a Megaten echo of Joker for the longest while, and I'm certain that if there were to be one, it should definitely be Raidou Kuzunoha. Not to mention, and I had this thought looking at his moveset because it was something I was desperately hoping for:
It looks like it's real, REAL easy to make an Echo Fighter of Joker based on a mainline SMT protagonist.
Think about it. Joker's long knife can be replaced with a short sword, since SMT protagonists use those alongside, you guessed it, guns. And my hope that Arsene didn't physically interact with anyone else in the battle came true: this means that, for an SMT protagonist Echo Fighter, you can replace Arsene with a significant demon like, say, Cerberus (for an SMT1 protagonist) and it wouldn't conflict with anything despite looking completely different from Arsene. Change Eiga to something like Agi or Bufu or whatever, and we're good.
The only caveat seems to be that a "limit break" fighting style like Joker currently has with down-B may not work well with an SMT protagonist. I'm okay with having the grappling hook for an SMT protag Echo Fighter, it was invented just for Joker and we can pretend that SMT protagonists have to climb all those ruined buildings somehow and a grappling hook seems okay.
Edit: Ooh, I came up with another idea. The protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei 1 wears his COMP on his head, via an eyepiece. He can summon demons by removing it the same way Joker takes off his mask / glasses to summon Arsene.

Yeah those are really cool references, even if the colors themselves are kinda underwhelming. I wish I had a Maya costume though, lol.*sees your avatar*
Yeahhh... *thinks back wistfully to my days of playing Wario Land 1-4 and Shake It!!, as well as Wario World*
But I'll still hold out hope. While Sakurai said Echo Fighters won't be part of the Fighter's Pass, maybe he can make a separate DLC pack for them, and perhaps we can get some mainline SMT recognition that way. Joker's current moveset gives me hope.
Edit: People pointed out that Joker's alts reference every Persona game, rather than his party members. The default outfit is self-explanatory, the purple outfit is Revelations: Persona, the red outfit is both Persona 2 games as well as Persona 5, the blue outfit is Persona 3, and the yellow outfit is Persona 4. This just leaves the Crow outfit, then the two Shujin Academy alternate costumes.
I don't know what you could do with Stage Builder in terms of representing SMT very well...What would be a good SMT-themed stage for Stage Builder? I'm thinking an incarnation of the Cathedral of Shadows, a bombed wasteland based on when you first emerge from the diamond realm in SMT1, maybe the Diamond Realm itself. The tower connecting Mikado to Tokyo (that you can enter and emerge into Mikado, while the lower half is ruined Tokyo) might work too. There's not a whole lot of SMT material for stages off the top of my head without resorting to spritework but I'd like to make something anyways.
From SMT1, the Great Cathedral, the final dungeon in the game. It can be a very big stage, with a solid middle section and pathways that lead up and down, representing the lairs of Archangel Michael and Asura Lord. You can color code the Law and Chaos sections. What would be a good SMT-themed stage for Stage Builder? I listed SMT as the game and instead of selecting Raidou (I haven't played his games yet), I skipped straight to the bottom and manually typed Demi-fiend. Here's hoping it does something.Yo guys, C chocolatejr9 said this before, but check out the Sega Heroes poll. They're looking for new characters to add to the mobile game and in the the Shin Megami Tensei category, there's Raidou Kuzunoha! While it's a game that's not to my taste, any publicity would be super nice.
Unfortunately, Demi-fiend, Flynn, and everyone else aren't exactly... an option so you're going to have to put him in the "other" category and hope Sega notices.
Hopefully, SMT becomes something more to Sega and Atlus than "That dead franchise that spawned Persona"
Fingers crossed yall.
In the meanwhile, hey, at least Joker's fun!
Actually it's not.Double post but it's been 2 days so it's fine.
Honestly, I want to go back there and give that person a piece of my mind on how ignorant that comment is,Double post but it's been 2 days so it's fine.
I remember someone in this thread saying it wasn't cool that some people here were saying Persona and SMT were completely separate series even though the former was a spin-off of the latter. Their concern was that people shouldn't think Persona isn't a TRUE Shin Megami Tensei series because it came off as elitist or something like that.
Well, here we are, months later, and there's quite a bit of Persona 3-5 content in Smash Ultimate, and nothing from the main series Shin Megami Tensei games (the only spell Joker uses is Persona-exclusive, though upon further research I appreciate it as a reference to its effect in Persona 1). So despite that press release that Nintendo put out acknowledging that Persona was a spin-off of the Nintendo-affiliated SMT games, maybe not even Nintendo / Sakurai thinks Persona is an SMT game.
Just a sobering thought I had. Not that I think Persona games aren't true SMT games or anything like that.
I would have bought a Jack Frost hat, at least.I've never played a SMT game, but it kind of bothers me that ATLUS milks the heck out of Persona 3, 4, and 5 but gives very little love towards SMT. I mean, it's the series that made them successful in the first place. After all, before Megami Tensei, they were making crappy movie-games for the NES. I think they should show more appreciation towards the parent of Persona. Apparently some people don't even know that Persona is a spin-off of SMT, and that kind of blows me mind. Anyway, I feel like SMT should've been represented in Smash's DLC pack one in some fashion, and it's a shame that it's not.

Fingers crossed for E3, because if not then... we're gonna be praying for a long while that a random Ninty Direct has news.Still waiting to see when it will be SMTV's release date to find out when it will be time to start pulling my hairs in frustration.
Actually, I'd be super down with that!Hope I'm not ruffling any feathers but how would you guys feel about Flynn from IV getting in Ultimate?
I think he'd be a great choice. He's the most recent protagonist, SMT IV has a healthy fanbase and he can learn spells via demon whisper.Hope I'm not ruffling any feathers but how would you guys feel about Flynn from IV getting in Ultimate?
Honestly I didn't know that at all but I've seen the source gaming vid just bummed cuz I don't think he has a shotActually, I'd be super down with that!
In fact, this thread was a general megaten thread before I changed the title to just focus on one character. ThatShadowLink wrote up a pretty cool moveset for him that you should check out. He has it linked on sourcegaming.com, but I also added it to the OP. He's in the "Demon Summoners->Movesets->Flynn" section.
I've wanted him since base game when I saw joker my Hope's were dashed tho but I'm happy persona was represented but it just doesn't feel right without them together there Brother and SisterI think he'd be a great choice. Not as visually unique as Demi-fiend, but we don't have a playable samurai yet. I support.

He honestly doesn't have a lot going for him, nor does most any other SMT character. I'd honestly peg another Persona 5 character as an echo as far more likely than us ever seeing SMT in Smash. Well, there's Jack Frost, but... he's definitely not as cool, lol.Honestly I didn't know that at all but I've seen the source gaming vid just bummed cuz I don't think he has a shot
