I hope that does not happen, but on the one hand, I heard suggestions that it was likely for the team to use a different engine next time, and that a roster cut was likely (with no indication for how significant), while on the other hand, the other hand, Ultimate's "Everyone is Here!" slogan was a bit lofty, so it would be expected that future titles would not have as extensive a roster. Depending on the number of cuts, it is quite likely that some 'indispensable' faces could say their farewell. At the same time, Ultimate was full of names that, if you ask me, did not really see a need to be in, but then I am also not the most familiar with their respective series, so that may not be air of me to say.

IDK if it'd ever be considered a "reboot", but we do know that inevitably, smash 6 will have cuts, lots of them.

I suspect it will primarily be DLC, but I wouldn't be surprised if a handful of vets get the boot. The FE cast especially, Lucina, Chrom, they'll be first on the chopping block. But other characters as well such as Doc, Pichu, possibly GW or WFT, a handful of Characters I can see them getting rid of to make room for some newcomers

With all that said though, I still hold to the idea I have had for awhile now; While smash 6 will make lots of cuts, those characters moves will survive in the form of custom moves. Smash4 introduced custom moves, but they were half-assed, just slight variations on characters specials, but I suspect that they'll return in a far more robust system for 6. With many vets and some newcomers getting older characters moves as "custom" ones, and it'd apply to not just specials, but every move in the game.

It'd be a way to make the game standout, while still managing to keep the movesets of massive amount of newcomers we got in ultimate alive, even if the characters aren't there.

I hope the Original 12 stays as well as most of the villains.

I, for one, like getting new characters more than old ones so long as they don't cut anyone too important

Yep. I will be more accepting of the cuts if the Original 12, the villains and most of the protagonist characters from Melee and Brawl continue to stay.

I think they will keep the 'staples,' but I am sure some favorites will disappear as well, possibly to include Ridley, and other long awaited names. I do think that they will keep much of the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy cast though.

I could see Ridley getting cut, but it would be kruel if they cut K. Rool with him being absence period over a decade before his Smash inclusion and with how long fans wanted him in Smash and it was that dedication from the fans in the Smash Ballot that brought K. Rool back from the dead. Read this to get a better understanding:

I could see Marth, Roy, Ike and maybe Robin or Lucina returning. Cloud and Sephiroth is very debatable though as Square-Enix has a tight squeeze on their franchises and might not want to play ball for Smash 6.

I don't think they will keep any of the Final Fantasy content, honestly

I also don't see Ridley getting cut. Zero Suit Samus and Dark Samus seem more likely to be cut than him imo

Definitely. Ridley should stay over Zero Suit and Dark Samus. And while Ridley was a Smash Ballot request as well, I think K. Rool has a higher chance of returning with his Ballot support literally bringing him back from the grave. Both of them could return, but I feel like they might not want to bring back too many of the villains if we are getting something like a 30 veteran roster in the future.

well I would hope there are at least 40 veterans, personally. But if we only have 30 veterans I see K. Rool being cut.
