For me, playing 1v1 without items and in "legal" stages has always been fun. Why else would you do it? 80-90% of people that actually assist tournaments don't think they'll win, myself included. I never agreed with the idea of seperating the idea of competitiveness with "fun", because they're not dissimilar.

Good point. However, I believe such a quote came from either someone who was feeling good about winning, or someone who was listening to complaints about losing, or quite probably both.
