Apparently it got heated on both sides. A lot of people were able to keep their cool but others, from what I can gather...weren’t.

It was a mix of that, and people within the thread itself being a bit more extreme in their reactions. I didn't see all of the drama myself, but I did notice some of the arguments that were taking place. As such, from what was said, the thread's been closed until further notice (probably through the Sakurai presents until a later point).
Maybe I'm explaining it poorly, but that's the general gist.

Wait... What?! I took a break from the Geno thread sometime today or yesterday because of some people getting upset about Sephiroth's inclusion. Like what the hell. Detractors shouldn't be causing trouble if the Geno fans ain't going around bothering them.

A bunch of people on both sides being toxic.
