I normally dislike when people use a dead person’s name in marketing, and even I can say this was a **** move by Nintendo.

Actually, all these things that Nintendo is doing is stemming from one aspect of their image. The overprotectiveness of their IPs. Nintendo firmly believes that this is unauthorized use of their IPs and therefore, want them to stop. I do think it was a little bad that the creator of the Joy-Cons didn't ask Nintendo's permission before making them.

As far as I can tell, that happened in September, and it's a side effect of the person selling plenty of other Joycons with Nintendo characters on them (such as various types of Pokemon) for profit.

If they put "In memory of Etika" or something like that instead of "Joycon Boyz" and the Switch logo (since both Joycons and the Switch are trademarked by Nintendo), they'd likely be fine.

I believe the main reason for the shutdown of this specific Joy-Con pair was that they use the word JoyCon on the shell, and CptnAlex would have to remove the word to continue produciton-which would defeat the purpose of the product entirely.
Once again, I must say-what keeps Nintendo from turning a blind eye to these types of things? Ignoring this wouldn't harm them in the slightest, at least from what I can tell. And the reason I talk about it now and not in September is because CptnAlex didn't say all this until just today I believe.

I guess because, if they don't do something, then there's a precedent that someone can point to if they use something that's trademarked by Nintendo, without Nintendo's permission, to make a profit. (crappy bootlegs, less-than-wholesome products, or what have you)
