I don't think they'd do that so close to the release. If that were the case I would've expected Min Min to be in the base roster. Then again I could be totally wrong, and I'd like to be as Impa (any version) is one of my most wanted.

That sounds like a good idea but I would prefer a character with more history in the Zelda franchise. I’m not saying Impa isn’t important, but her design in a game that hasnt come out yet is not that important to Zelda.
Someone like Tingle or Skull Kid would feel less like they’re in the game just for promotion

Not this one. There are multiple Impa's that are all different characters. He's just saying Impa (AoT) has way less significance than Tingle and Skull Kid because her game hasn't released yet. An earlier version though like in OoT would be fine for this pass imo

There are multiple Links, Zeldas, and Ganondorfs that are all different characters too, yet we still refer to all of them as the same within Smash merits, you wouldn't say that Tingle is more important than BOTW Link just because it's a new version of him, he's still a "Link" that has the distinction of being the protagonist of the series. Same for Impa, just because it's a new incarnation doesn't mean that there isn't history behind that as well.

Also, as much as I love Skull Kid, I hard disagree he's more important. Skull Kid was an antagonist in 1 game and was a minor role in 2 others, not counting Hyrule Warriors. In terms of actual appearances, Impa has him beat easily. It's way easier to compare Impa to Tingle than to Skull Kid if we're going by "Re-occurring in the series".

Good point, but still I honestly feel using this design in particular isn’t a good idea because the game isn’t out yet.

It’s completely different from BotW Link because Breath of the Wild is already out. So I don’t think I still stand by my exact wording of “Not as important” but I do think a character based on an upcoming game would just feel like an advertisement. Smash is supposed to be a celebration of gaming history
Plenty of other Zelda characters are more better picks, and this last part is probably an unpopular opinion, but I do think Tingle and Skull Kid are more iconic than any version of Impa

I could see Impa making it into Smash (either the Hyrule Warriors or Age of Calamity version), though I don't think it will happen until next year. I figure that, if they're going to add a new Zelda character, saving them for Zelda's 35th anniversary seems like it would make a lot of sense.

I mean, the Mario 35th goes on til March, I'm pretty confident we'll only have FP8 by that point, so next fighter is do or die for that.

Yep. I'm not counting on it, but hey, Steve happened, so maybe we can get caught off guard a second time. I prefer that to getting spoiled.

Shroob : there's still time; between the vague "November or December" timing for a Mario tournament (why not have it that weekend? Or at least give specific dates) and the Smash Online Tournament that ends on November 1st (Min Min and Steve were announced a few days after the past two online tournaments), it still seems possible that we'll get a Mario character announcement next month.

Eh, it won't even be 3 weeks after Steve came out.


I know Covid got all the schedules ****y, but I am seriously not expecting a character THAT soon.
