NO. Movement shouldn't be held back by a run button, especially not in a platformer, unless it's an optional powerup for a character who can already run naturally.

A run button is more precise than momentum. While momentum works for something like 2D Sonic with loop de loops and such, a 2D Mario game for example would not benefit in the slightest from momentum. It all depends on context.

Also, what's with the caps lock?

YES. It's more of a hinderance than anything, hence why Mario Odyssey ditched it.
