Took me a while to realise, even if you charge Phantom and the other guy isn't approaching, it's never really a bad thing. At worse, they just give you more space, but that is mostly definitely better than taking unnecesary pressure (i.e Wario with his Bairs or something).

Indeed, I think you'll benefit with exploring Phantom more. I feel like playing Zelda in a nutshell, is constantly convincing your opponent to continually attack you even when you keep stuffing his approaches and proving it's a bad idea. The trick is to find various ways to bait your opponent and then trap them, so you can land a big hit.
