"animation is the purest form of cinema" mfs when animation is used to tell stories other than incredibly basic black and white super-cool muscular good vs mustache-twirling orphan-kicking evil.
not saying pixar movies are super-deep or don't usually have good-vs-evil plots or anything like that btw, nor am i saying that liking classic superhero-esque stories is bad, just that it's really weird to both champion animation as a high art form and get upset at animated works for not following conventional cinematic tropes or otherwise just not appealing to your tastes.

i'm not following what del toro's saying. sure animation is the best but the problem it has is through out the whole industry
