No, I agree with Darkonedagger here.

Look, I've never read a Moon Girl comic and I don't know anything about the character. This is the first time I've seen somebody say she is a Mary Sue, actually. But, from this perspective, and from what I have seen of the show, it is honestly just another average Disney Jr. show, and I feel like trying to perpetuate it as a signal horn for an oncoming wave of "Mary-Sue propaganda" is reading way too much into something not very significant or controversial

Excuse me for finding the character annoying

Nobody ever said you were invalidated for saying she is annoying, in fact it is normal for most people to see certain characters as annoying; But that is also very plainly not what you said when you made this post, you said that her show is "irritating mary sue heroes going forward" which is a very different thing.

Yes it’s called exaggerating to make a point. Although there is something to the logic of “if they give this character a show they’ll give similar ones a show”

Saying one thing at first and then a very different thing later with two varying connotations is not "exaggerating a point". I gaurantee you that if you just started with "Moon Girl is annoying" rather than what you did say (and, honestly, it was said in a very bizarre way), nobody would have commented on this post, or at the very least challenged you.

This is the first time I accidentally started a flame war, but still WHO is moon girl

Oh, uhh. She is a human with Inhuman genes. She is super intelligent and has a side kick in the form of a giant T-rex. She gains inhuman powers after being exposed to terrigen mist. I think that pretty much sums her basic character lay out IIRC

On the other stuff...

1. I thought it was live action, which is most of what prompted my response.
2. It being a Disney Jr show, its not super fair to complain about Mary Sues in what I will assume is the MCU.
3. I also find Moon Girl annoying, but it is possible to work her into more Marvel works without her being like the comics. I generally find comic Miles Morales quite plain, and love him in the spiderverse, so I imagine that could happen to her as well.
4. Disney Jr shows are allowed to have Mary Sues. The characters are meant to be role models and generally be positive figures.

Ooooooooooh so its Marvel ok

Yeah I feel like as a whole Marvel struggles with its female characters, I think that their attempts to avert the tropes common with female characters in action shows accidentally created their own problematic tropes

PinkFlare PinkFlare why is this bothering you so much?

Glubbfubb Glubbfubb you didn’t start a flame war. It’s not your fault

It isn't bothering me at first, I just stepped in because I wanted to share the opinion. Then you kind of just tried to victimize yourself by saying "Excuse me for finding the character annoying". Like, no, nobody said anything about that, and you trying to say that is essentially you claiming that people are invalidating and silencing your opinion, which is outright not true. Same goes for you asking why I'm bothered by it, as if I cannot reply to a conversation you are having with me without somehow being the aggravated one.

With that said, I kind of said everything that I felt I wanted to say, and ultimately I also don't care about Moon Girl or the show so it doesn't bother me at all right now.
I can't really speak on your end, though, but if you want to leave this conversation off on something, I can ask why it bothers you so much to start this profile thread.

Superman is the utlimate Mary Sue.

I mean come on? Super strength? Flight? Frost breath? Is there something he can't do?

So annoying. I miss when the Super Hero genre wasn't about inhuman characters with inhuman powers and capabilities.

Pot and kettle pink. The first thing you said in this conversation was “this thread is going to be a disaster” if the opinion you’re stepping in to share is that people are going to take it the wrong way. The second thing you said was you agreed with the comment “it’s literally a cartoon for children” which stinks of trying to invalidate the opinion with a big fat “who cares” no offence darkone. Don’t paint yourself as coming in here with harmless comments when the first thing you said was more snarky than what I said in the first place

ZephyrZ ZephyrZ ultimate Mary sue? I can see where you’re coming from with this. Probably why all his enemies also have a ridiculous amount of powers

bar lex obviously but he has his own way

I was being sarcastic. My point was that the super hero genre has always been about "this person is way smarter/stronger/better then anyone else".

It's been subverted and deconstructed time and time again but at the end of the day that's what the super hero genre is about. Space aliens with redicous powers, teenagers with radioactive spider blood and supergenius kids with pet dinosaurs.

They're all mary sues, but people still like 'em.

Perhaps. But some are balanced out with interesting character arcs

Correction: I said "This thread is going to be a disaster" because I had no plan or incentive to comment. The only reason I really engaged was to agree with Darkonedagger, because what is he saying is ultimately true and I found this initial post to be extremely bizarre anyway.

And no, it is not a big fat "who cares". Read what I said: "Trying to prepuate as a signal horn is reading too much into it". Again, a completely different thing, because it's not saying "nobody cares", it's saying "you're making it out to be a bigger deal than it actually is in the slightest." Which, yeah, to me this is extremely harmless, especially based on what the context for this is anyway, that being the Disney Channel Moon Girl TV show. It's not a proginator for an upcoming character agenda, it is quite literally just a show, which I have every reason to doubt that you have watched.

Just to TL;DR it for those who don't understand: Saying: "It's a kids show" does not mean nobody cares, it means you are looking far too deep into something that doesn't have a deeper meaning and isn't representative of anything larger than what it is.

Nobody is trying to invalidate you not liking Moon Girl, which is also a completely separate thing than the ongoing of this thread, yet you are going out of your way to say people are which is just not true.

Also, if the idiom you meant to use was "Pot calling the Kettle back", then you're using it wrong, because the idiom means "someone calling out someone else for a flaw they have", which by virtue means you are doing exactly what I am saying you are doing, regardless of whether I am doing so as well or not (which, FYI, I'm not.) This is a very weird way to paint yourself.

You know the description you gave is how I was using it? I’m not going out my way to say that is what you’re saying I’m explaining to you why it sounds like that’s what you’re saying. Saying a thread is going to be a disaster makes you look like you’re trying to start trouble and will paint your further comments in a similar light. The issue here is that you don’t realise how you’re coming across.

I don't really know too much about Moon Girl or the show itself, but from what I've seen, the animation looks really nice, so hopefully it turns out to be good.

I am coming across just fine, you yourself are just misinterpreting things based on stuff I never said or implied. At no point did you "explain" to me what how what I am saying is coming across diffferently, because you're just victimizing yourself for every misinterpretation you make. Again, it's weird, the original statement feels really weird, and the continuous engagement in this thread is extremely weird, especially when you keep calling me out by username

Moon Girl amd Devil Dinosaur just started. I haven't seen the first episode yet but it's too early to say she won't have a character arch.

I did see a promotional clip where she was struggling to play the hero role and get her dinosaur to cooperate, though, which gives me the impression they're deliberately giving her room for character growth.

It seems like a fun show with a lot of heart, I don't think it's worth wasting hate on.
