That's the problem though - that Smash is trying to be a "celebration of gaming history", but also appeal to a fanbase that doesn't give a monkeys about gaming history outside the lens of Nintendo hardware.

My problem with Banjo is that so many people wanted him, and only like 5% of those people still main him. He suffered greatly with moveset issues.

Mater chief has no such issue, he could easily have a fun diverse moveset with tons of source material to pull from.

smash fans when they realize master chief would be a zoner

In all seriousness, I don't really have any problems with Banjo (sans the whole moveset thing) but I will admit Master Chief (or rather, Halo as a series) is much more important to gaming.

fogbadge fogbadge I thought it was a fandom thing at first too, but nope - it was said in (ironically enough) Byleth's presentation.

But he didn’t say history

Well you could say that by saying Celebration of gaming instead of celebration of gaming history is quite interchangeable.

I feel that saying celebration of gaming is implying its celebrating its history.

I can’t think of a better example right now, but if somebody says “Let’s go to the new restaurant”, you are already implying that you are going to eat there, you don’t really need to say specifically “Lets go to the new restaurant to eat”.

On what you said about me being presumptuous, I was more so exaggerating than literally saying that only 5% of people still play Banjo. I’m just trying to say that many Banjo supporters dropped the character due to being a relatively boring and difficult character.

If you are referring to what I said about Master Chief though, its not that ridiculous to believe that he could have a very fun moveset. He could have stances (Battle rifle, assault rifle, pistol), He could be a melee user (energy sword, gravity hammer, bare fisted), he could be a trapper (grenades, plasma grenades). There really is basically endless possibilities. Hell, he even has a fancy new grappling hook that he could use. Plus, he already is a master martial artist in his game, so he doesn’t even need weapons.

No I meant it’s presumptuous to assume he’ll have a moveset just cause he has more stuff to pull from

as for the “celebration of gaming” is that its far more ambiguous than “let’s go to restaurant”
even then all games are part of gaming history so technically any character fills that

I don’t really think it’s that far off to assume he will have a moveset. Having more stuff to pull from doesn’t always pan out in smash, but for a character so rooted in fighting, many of his tools are quite easy to transplant into Smash. Grenades for example, and Joker is a good showing of how a gun could be presented. If anything, it would be quite difficult to not give him a moveset. Even some of the more generic movesets could work.

As for COG and the restaurant, I just couldn’t really think of a better example at the time :p
