I'm autistic myself, and I think Autism Awareness Month, regardless of whatever intentions it may have, really misses the mark. People are aware of autism. Acceptance is the endgoal, but since we're parading this "awareness" thing around, it really does become patronizing.

Also, I really don't get the puzzle piece vs. infinity debate; I understand that Autism Speaks is garbage (and even that's an understatement), but the whole argument really befuddles me.

I dislike the puzzle piece because it implies we're incomplete or a puzzle for NTs to solve, but I also dislike the infinity because it implies we can do aaaaannnnyyyything and aren't held back like with any other disabilty, as if Mozart/Beethoven level prodigy is the norm.
