Actually, Lucas is more crippled than Ness is. I say that because I use both, remember?
1. He cannot camp easier, and more times than not you'll be forced to approach. That's the problem with Lucas. If you have to approach you have almost no range to work with because: PK Fire is easily power shielded, and Lucas doesn't have a lot of range on his ground moves.
2. Grab RANGE isn't necessarily a better thing. Ness' throws are way more useful. One kills and is the best in the game and one does a ton of damage. Lucas' aren't bad though, just don't expect to kill with them against someone with good DI for awhile
3. Yeah his recovery is better
4. Yeah his smashes are more powerful, but Ness still does a better job killing IMO
5. Ness has arguably better setups
I mean I'm just giving you what I know, and mostly why Ness is above Lucas on the tier list. Lucas has all the tools he needs to be a good character, but is crippled mostly by range. Once you get in though it's not necessarily that hard. You DO have worse matchups than Ness does, and some yucky grab releases.
