Fundamentals. You want to utilize dash dancing to maintain control of stage space. Your goal will be to keep your opponent at a sword length the whole game. And further and you get camped. Any closer and you get combo'd.

Start with tech and general movement. This forum has lots of useful resources in those areas. Then, watch good foxes and just play the game. He's a character you just have to learn to control through experience and practice.

The answer to your second question is also the answer to your first. The boost grab goes much further, so its application is covering more ground than the jc grab.

Probably not a controller issue. Fox has a very tough short hop. Spend some time every day working on doing it consistently-- your fingers will get used to it.
