    Vs. Fox on yoshi's

I think there is some truth to it, but it's only if you maintain good horizontal spacing. Otherwise, you'll lose trades easily and the occasional utilt will just send you into the blast zones. I believe Yoshi's is a good training ground for consistent spacing and platform control (especially...

    CC turn around grab?

He didn't forget to shine. The shine comes out, but the crouch-cancel and weak nair turning him around meant that hbox could grab him before the shine hitbox came out. You can see it if you slow down the to frame-by-frame.

    Stupidest/funniest Rest setup?

I can't believe no one has said taunt into rest. Any crouch-cancel or smash DI into rest always leave a sour taste in the mouth.

How to correctly approach a slow tilt-heavy Sheik?

I am going to answer my own question. If you find your self in a situation where Sheik is ftilt'ing a lot the first thing you need to realize is that if you get caught up in it, you must DI appropriately. It's very easy to DI in from a Sheik ftilt because your approach is usually already...

Smash Video Splitter - a desktop application for splitting large video files

You could do this as a fairly straight-forward frame template pattern matching if you want. Use the character select screen with no controllers and match to that within a high confidence. Use the frames that match it the closest as a split. That should give you reasonable sets if you assume BYOC.

How to correctly approach a slow tilt-heavy Sheik?

I've grown accustom to the classic and aggressive Sheik players, but lately I've been struggling with slow and tilt-heavy Sheik players. They play style is generally crouch, slow-walk, tilt, and fair. I feel that the constant crouching also mitigates the bair a bit as a forward pressure, so...

I believe seeding once sigma < 3 seems reasonable as well. TrueSkill gets you there after about 8 games with similarly ranked people. I've implemented a system that goes back and recalculates the entire tree when an old challonge is added or a player is merged with other players (the multiple...

Hah, I do the same thing for "official rankings" as the conservative estimate. I haven't played around with seeding based on rankings yet. If you estimate the match quality before hand and seed that way it would probably be fine. If the quality is less than 0.50 then the game will be a bad matchup.

That was the case a while back, but there are a bunch of implementations that exist in the wild now. There are also papers that exist which explain it more in detail now.

We should collaborate. I ended up building a community site and incorporated TrueSkill to a lot of success: http://www.azssb.com/challonge/ranking/ I've only loaded a handful of rankings (25 tournaments for melee, 5 for pm) but I plan on releasing to github for other communities. I'd love to...
