You're totally right about Events mode. Spirits looks pretty fun, so that's not a total loss then. On target related things, SSB4 at least had Target Blast, and that's nowhere to be seen either.

So does anyone think there are more modes to be discovered? Ultimate seems a little light on modes so far. We haven't seen anything like Special Orders, or Home-Run, or Event Mode, or Target Smash (unless I missed them). I'm at least hoping we get hidden modes like Boss Battles again.

After all these deconfirmations (and assuming neither spirits nor assist trophies can be made playable), I'm still rooting for Porky, Andy, Elma, Bandana Dee, Sora, and Banjo & Kazooie. All in all, there are still quite a few popular picks left to be seen.

To be fair--and this isn't meant to bash Sonic by any means--Banjo has huge moveset potential. Everything that Banjo learns in his games could be easily translated to a Smash moveset. Plus, Banjo has been on Sakurai's radar since Melee days, so who's to say Sakurai has never put any thought into...
