  • So there's this tournament on the 17th of January, and it appears as though you aren't allowed to miss it. People from Okanagan are coming as well. Mark your calander. =D

    :005:
Breez played M2K for about 8 hours straight the night before TourneyPlay 3, and bundtcake has a s***ton on online experience, so yeah, they're pretty solid. The Diddy player didn't stick around for long, so I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any vids of him recorded.

None of that stuff is really planned out. It just kinda happens. Sleeping arrangements basically come down to people crashing wherever, and people just leave to go get food at some point. If you need to make a call, ask somebody for a cell phone. =P Just bring whatever overnight stuff you'd need and a controller and you'll be fine.

    :005:
Yeah, I've never done any intense travelling either, but I'm really looking forward to it. Of course, in your situation, it would probably be better to get some local experience first. Going to a national tournament for your first event would be kinda overwhelming.

Regarding smashfests during the Christmas break, I won't be around to get you to come, and help you figure out how to get there. If you want to try and get in on one of these events, I suggest you talk to LFL, as he's the guy who typically organizes these things. He's on my friend list if you want to find him. Just tell him you're the Diddy player I've been talking about, and he'll know who you are. =P

    :005:
I'll probably just link you to the YouTube channel. There will be a LOT of vids, and sifting through the individual links would get really tedious. o.0

There was one guy who apparently uses both the Kongs, but I didn't get to play him. >.< He didn't do very well, but apparently it was his first time playing in ~2 months. The entire group gets better each time though...it's kinda scary.

You really need to come! I've been instructed to force you to come to the next one. XD There are going to be a few big events coming up in the new year as well. A bunch of us (about 6 or 7 so far) are planning on going to TourneyPlay 4, a national tournament in Seattle, Washington taking place in mid-February. There are also plans for a large Brawl tourney in March, and we're thinking of trying to get some people from Alberta and Washington to come up for it. You need to get involved soon. DX

    :005:
Oh, you have no idea. In one of our matches yesterday, we were playing on Pictochat, and the last KO was me getting Utilted while I was trying to Egg Lay him. My tongue was fully extended, it didn't reach him, and his tilt still connected and KOed me. >.< The entire match was actually super gay. ^.^

Also, we got a crapload of recorded vids this time. You'll have a lot to watch when they get uploaded. =D

    :005:
Very excellent. It's going to be in Abbotsford, and it'll be an overnighter, just like the last one, except there won't be a tourney this time; just a longer smashfest. It doesn't matter, because the smashfest was just as fun as the tourney last time. =] It's not 100% that you'll be able to come yet, but I talked to one of the hosts, and he said it's fine with him, so there's a pretty good chance there will be room for you.

A few of us are getting a ride from Haney Station in Maple Ridge to the house. We're going to meet at the Coquitlam station at around 5:00 or so on Friday, and we're taking the 701 bus to Haney. Does that work for you?

    :005:
I have class from 11:30 to 2:20, So I'll be free after that. I guess I'll drop in before to get an hour in before class as well. ^.^

    :005:
You have such bad luck with these things. D=<

Ah well, good luck. Hope you can make it to the next one!

    :005:
It's this Saturday. =S And I understnd what you mean; I'd be thinking the same thing if I were you. Trust me though, all the Brawl players at Overture were pretty cool guys; easy to get along with and all that. It should be good times.

I think he lives around either the Mission area or Abbotsford, one of the two. Either way, it's basically going to the area of the tourney for the night, with a short drive on Saturday to the venue, and then going back to Burnaby/Surrey/whatever afterwards. The West Coast Express goes to Mission, where he'd pick us up, but the timings are limited, so we'll have to work around that.

    :005:
He held up pretty well. We both screwed up a couple times, but it worked out. He SDed twice in one match, which gave me the opportunity to perform an amazing 2v1 comeback. =D

Also, remember that tourney I told you about? It's still quite a while away, but there's an interesting twist to this. LFL (the guy I teamed with for doubles) offered housing, so we can stay overnight on Friday to go to the tourney on Saturday. He said he can take 5 people, so there's essentially going to be a smashfest Friday night followed by the tourney on Saturday. =0 So, more time commitment, but a lot more smash for the distance travelled. How does that sound?

    :005:
Hah, there was no live stream. There wasn't even a recording set-up. There were about 12 people for singles. >.<

I came 3rd in singles. We screwed up at the worst possible times. >.<

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being "lol free money" and 10 being "WTF how the bloody hell did I win?", I'd say about a 8. I really had to work very hard to win a lot of matches, and it didn't help that I got a brutal bracket. Overall, I was VERY impressed at the talent there, considering the turnout and the general lack of tournament experience in BC. It was a lot of fun overall, and it was a shame you couldn't be there. V.V

    :005:
IT'S OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY

Really though, I was just worried about you, because I had no contact with you. I thought the only reason you didn't make it was because of my cell phone, so you couldn't get there. >.< It sucks you missed it though. D= I did get another doubles partner, but we didn't win money. I won singles though, so that made up for it. =D

Also, there are probably going to be more smash gatherings, even if they aren't necessarily tournaments, happening in the future. I'll keep you informed.

    :005:
I donno if you're gonna get this in time, but my cell phone is dead, so you won't be able to contact me. Sorry! D=

Skytrain to VCC-Clark, bus 84 to UBC, and there was a map somebody posted in the thread to direct to the building. It's room 102, as posted in the first post.

    :005:
OK! Well, Ike is another possibility, but I am way too worried about accidentally hitting you in the middle of a match... I guess I just gotta reserve my smash attacks for crucial moments when needed.

Anyways, we'll talk about this sheez in the games room. PCEZ!
Sorry, that was really unclear. We sign up as a team at the venue when we're paying our entry fees for the event. >.<

    :005:
Alright, Tuesday it is. I just finished my lab for tomorrow, so I'll have a lot of time to play. =D

As for the teams, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages to going Yoshi/Diddy. Anybody can pick up bananas regardless of the rules; they're just items, after all. One of the things I want to practice is getting better control of Yoshi's ATs so I can handle bananas more freely. If I can work that out, the bananas won't be a problem at all. What I am concerned about is our collective KOing ability. If we well enough together, this shouldn't be too bad, but neither Yoshi nor Diddy are really good at KOing individually. We can take advantage of things like Yoshi's grab release to set up KOs for each other better. If we find our opponents living to stupid %s in tournament matches, you may want to consider switching to Ike. =P

Also, we sign up for doubles during registration. This is going to be my 6th tournament, so if you have any questions, I'm sure I can help.

    :005:
I've never been to UBC either, so I won't be that useful. >.< However, just in case, my number is (780) 686-2236.

We need to get some Brawl practice in. Are you free anytime tomorrow? I have a lab at 9:30 that I have no idea what's happening in, so I don't know when I'll be able to leave, and I have a lecture from 12:30-2:00. Also, I can play from 1:30-2:30 on Wednesday.

    :005:
Are you planning on going to the smash tournament next weekend? If so, I think we would make a good team for Brawl doubles, and possibly Melee doubles as well. What do you think?

    :005:
My first impression was "okay, this is pretty good for a sprite animation". And then it got to the fight scenes. o.0 That was REALLY cool. I think you've given me something to kill my time with this weekend. =D

    :005:
Don't feel about about not making it. You actually didn't miss much. =/ We got to play in the games room for a few hours, so that was pretty cool, but it closed at 5, and after that, we wandered around the campus trying to find another place to play. We eventually got kicked out by security. >.< It was pretty lame overall...not really worth it IMO.

    :005:
Somebody's alarm clock woke me up about an hour early this morning, so I'll probably be there a bit after 10:30. I was planning on just going on time for my first class at 11:30, but it seems there's been a change of plans. X[

    :005:
    I checked that a couple times, but there was never anybody else online. ;-;

Anyway, can you Brawl tomorrow? I'm free before 12:30 and after 2:30.

    :005:
No, It actually works out perfectly fine for me. I get to sleep in tomorrow, and I don't have a lot of homework for Thursday, so I should be able to get to bed at a decent hour. We'll play Thursday. Just make sure everything's ready for us. ^.^

    :005:
I don't have a lot of free time on Wednesdays anyway. You're still up for today though, right? I'm in my CPMT lab right now; I just have to double check a bit of code, hand it in, and I'll be ready to go.

I hope the BC community surprises me. I played in Alberta for a while, and it get the impression that Alberta is miles ahead of BC in terms of Brawl. V.V

    :005:
There's one going on in Coquitlam on the first weekend in October, and another at UBC on the first weekend in November. I'm going to try and make it to both, and you should too. We could enter doubles together. =D

Where is the Math Open Lab? Not that I'll go in there and say "hey, you wanna ditch and go Smash?" or anything, but I'm just curious. =P I have a lecture from 12:30 to 1:50, so I won't be there in that time frame. Isn't the gaming club meeting tomorrow anyway?

    Ah well, see you tomorrow.

    :005:
So, what time are you going to be in the games room tomorrow? I have a lab from 9:30 to 11:30, but if last week was any indication, I should be out by around 10:00. =3

Also, have you heard about any of the tournaments going on around here?
