  • Well, Tekken 8 is getting a closed network test. Also, Claudio will be making his return.

Whilst I don't feel there is anything wrong with their approach in terms of reveals, but I just wish they would had shown this during last night's Summer Game Fest which would had garnered more interest and hype.
If there is one thing that I have learned about social media reactions, is that they are unpredictable.
This month is Summer Game Fest in which I do anticipate a number of video game reveals and updates.

From a fighting game perspective, Mortal Kombat 1 is already confirmed to have a first glimpse of gameplay to be shown there and I think maybe something on Tekken 8 too?

I do not think it is likely there will be anything Street Fighter 6 related news to be revealed at the Summer Game Fest since the game came out not long ago. But I predict Capcom are likely to share news of their first DLC character Rashid probably at the EVO event that takes place within a few months.

You can also throw in former CEO Bob Chapek's decision to focus on streaming and Kareem Daniel's decisions on what films were to be headed for theaters and streaming are also factors that contributed to tarnishing Disney's brand.

Whilst it is still hard to predict how Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny, Pixar's Elementals, the live action Haunted Mansion film, Marvel Studios' The Marvels and Disney Animation's Wish will fare as the months goes on, I do feel that Bob Iger has an awful lot of work to do to put Disney and their creative studios back on track and hopefully it will pay off.

Another thing that I will add is any projects that were developed under Chapek's era are ones I am uncertain about in terms of quality.

Whilst it is hard to predict which films this year will do well in terms of reception, I do believe that there will be a shift in direction and quality maybe within films next year under Iger's reign.
Having watched the Little Mermaid live action film today:

When I first went in to watch the film, I did not know what to expect and if I had to be rather honest, I actually quite liked the live action take even though I still feel there are parts that the animation version did better.

Rob Marshall's Little Mermaid still maintains parts of the fun with its iconic songs and soundtrack (by Alan Menken) and respects the story from the 1989 animation and the cast of Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King and Melissa McCarthy delivered excellent performances within their roles.

There were a few minor issues such as the underwater scenes' effects could had done with a bit more polish and I really wish that they animated Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttles better.

Overall, I'd say that the Little Mermaid is certainly one of the better and decent live action takes in which I would place it behind Cinderella and the Jungle Book.

    Rating: 7/10
Binge watched the first season of the Boys, Invincible and Peacemaker for the past few days which were all very well done.

Maybe this was because of the anticipation of the likes of Homelander, Omni Man and the Peacemaker rumoured for the Mortal Kombat 1's season pass leak. Whilst it is hard to say anything regarding to leak, I would assume that Netherealm Studios will reveal its contents some point after the game releases in September.
Having watched the Super Mario Bros. the Movie twice this week, I will say that I do throughly enjoy it as someone who had played the Super Mario games since the Nintendo 64 days with a number of recognisable easter eggs and references to the franchise as well as other Nintendo properties from Punch Out to Kid Icarus along with a memorable soundtrack (even though I do question some of the song choices.)

However, when I saw the critics' score after watching the film and whilst I do understand what parts were being criticised such as there wasn't much character development as I'd hope for and the pacing was rather rushed, I do feel some of the critics were being quite harsh especially with one review saying that the 1993 live action film was better than the Super Mario Bros. film which something I do not agree with(I had watched the 1993 film and it was dreadful.)

As I said, as a someone who has been a fan of the Super Mario games, did I enjoy watching the film? Certainly. As a movie fan, could it had been better in anyway? Certainly as well.

    My overall rating: 7.5/10

Man, I really do hope that there will be an official soundtrack to the Super Nintendo World theme park. And yes, I finally had the opportunity to watch the Super Mario Bros. Movie (in which I am looking to watch the film for a second time this week.) Will provide my full thoughts and review for my next post.
So I just finished watching Peter Pan & Wendy which is based upon the live action adaption of the 1953 animated film (although there are many other adaptions of Peter Pan.)

Overall, I wouldn't say it is entirely perfect and it is not bad, but there are certain areas such as the script could had done with a bit more fun and charm that the animated version had and the first act felt rather rushed with some slightly uneven pacing.

But I do feel that the story was kind of well crafted and Ever Andersen (who is the daughter of Resident Evil and Fifth Element star Mila Jovovich and film maker Paul W.S. Anderson) who played Wendy had a glimpse of decent performances and I possibly tip her to be a future star.

Overall, I wouldn't exactly say that Peter Pan & Wendy is a bad film entirely, but I wouldn't say that this is one of Disney's memorable live action films.
Having watched Power Rangers: Once & Always on Netflix, I will say that whilst there are some areas that could had been "Morphenomenal", it was still contains the same fun, action and nostalgia that I remembered watching during my childhood which made the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers so special.

In addition, the ending paid a fitting tribute to the late Thuy Trang and Jason David Frank.
Continuing on from my ideal Street Fighter live action film casting with Cammy White, formerly nicknamed as the "Killer Bee" who was freed from M. Bison's control, she now works as an MI Agent for the British Government. In the 1994 adaption, Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue portrayed Cammy.

In terms of casting choices, the two I had in mind are Jodie Comer (Killing Eve & Free Guy) or Florence Pugh (Black Widow & Don't Worry Darling) would be ideal for the role.
As promised here is a part of my fan cast ideas for the Street Fighter live action film and I will be posting more in the future:

    Chun-Li

Chun-Li is regarded as one of the most iconic characters within Street Fighter since her first appearance back in the second game. She was featured in the 1994 live action adaptation played by Wen Ming Na (who you may recognise her in ABC's Agents of Shield series as Agent Melinda May) and in the spin-off film "Legend of Chun-Li" by Kristen Kreuk.

There are plenty of Chinese actresses who could pretty much fit the role of Chun-Li (although that really depends on where the events of the live action film takes place.) I will put the likes of Fala Chen (Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings), Li Junli (Wu Assassins), Olivia Liang (Kung Fu) and maybe Christine Ko (Only Murders in the Building) as potential candidates I have in mind who could portray Chun-Li.
Since the announcement that Legendary Films and Capcom will work together on a new live action Street Fighter film, I've been seeing a load of fancasts of which actors/actresses they like to see play the characters (even though it is not known what events the film will take place.)

I do have some fancast ideas for some of the actors/actresses who can fill in the roles of the Street Fighter characters in which I will share them in a future post.
It is interesting to see that Marvel Studios' "The Marvels" which was originally meant for a July release is now shifted to a November release and Secret Invasion and Loki S2 are the only MCU tv shows to be released for Disney+ this year with Ironheart and Echo shifted to next year which actually makes sense.

With Bob Iger's return as Disney CEO, hopefully this will give Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige more quality and creative control and time that the need to perfect and polish their projects.
It's kind of strange that I see more marketing and promotion on the Flash and not very much on Shazam: Fury of the Gods which comes out next month.

To be fair, I was hoping that they would show at least some form of promotion during Super Bowl, but surprisingly none. I'm certainly they will have to show something as soon as tickets goes on sale otherwise with little marketing, there is no anticipation or hype for the film.
I've been watching a whole load of video game live action films from Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, Tekken, Double Dragon, DOA: Dead or Alive, the King of Fighters etc and I can understand why these films were criticised solely because they ignore the game's source material.

I believe it really important that film makers consult and have the producers and directors of the games to have on board throughout its development to ensure that the film achieves a respectable adaptation.

This is why having Shigeru Miyamoto on board within the film making process for the Super Mario Bros. film is important to ensure everything transits in to a respectable adaptation.
James Gunn had revealed the slate for their new take on the DC Universe films and tv slate today.

Overall, whilst it is hard for me to say about these projects as I will wait for further information and news before I can provide my judgement. But I'm not really sure if keeping the door open for Ezra Miller's return as the Flash for future features is a wise decision considering the amount of controversy he had already caused.
Just finished watching all of the entire episodes of "Wednesday" on Netflix, I will say that the show was able to take advantage of its comedy-horror esque mystery sitcom that gives a new perspective to Wednesday Adam's character in which actress Jenna Ortega was able to deliver on her performance.
Someone on Youtube saying that a film teaser trailer "doesn't sell at all."

"A teaser trailer is a short version of a movie trailer that is designed to pique the interest of the audience, getting potential viewers excited about an upcoming film." That is exactly what a teaser trailer's purpose and objective are meant to do which is to build the audiences' curiousity and interest that can contribute towards the movie's hype and anticipation.

Also from the same Youtube Channel, he claimed that "The word is is The Marvels will be quite a flop across the board." This is going to be one of those moments where this feels like saying that without providing a single source to his claim this is a "trust me bro" meme which doesn't really support or back his entire credibility (which it is obvious that this channel does have a history of manufacturing a load of lies for views and clicks.)
I am still quite baffled to how parts of Film Twitter, Youtube channels, Reddit etc complained and criticise Princess Peach's role within Illumination & Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. film coming in three months time. Do they not know that as a member of royalty whether this is a king, queen, prince or a princess, their role is to take charge and to lead their entire kingdom which is what Princess Peach's role is. Have they not played a Smash Bros. game where Princess Peach is a playable character where she can fight on her own?

I've also seen some complained about Mario's characterisation as the "bumbling type." Have they not heard about how a "hero's journey theory" works? This appears in almost every film I have watched. The hero goes through an adventure, learns a lesson, obtains victory and then returns home as a hero. Not only helps his narrative, but builds his character development as the film progress.

Another example of how this "hero's journey theory works", let's look at "Cool Runnings." After Derice, Junior and Yule all failed to secure a place for the 1988 Summer Olympics during the tryouts plus Sanka crashed out of a race, the four decided to take up the Bobsleigh discipline in hopes of qualifying the 1988 Winter Olympics. The four never even heard of a bobsleigh and you can see during their first training session with Irving Blitzer, they were acting like the "bumbling" type characters. But as the film progresses, the four began to learn, co-operate and work together as a team in which even though they did not win a medal, what they earned is respect from everyone (which is pretty much a victory for them.) As the film's end credits said, that the four "returned home as heroes" yet they "all returned to the next Winter Olympics, as equals."

I just wish that those who complained and criticise to study up more on how these things work more so that they have a much better and wider understanding.

I really do feel very sorry for Henry Cavill who left his role on Netflix's Witcher series, confirmed that he was returning to play Clark Kent/Superman a few months ago and then only told by James Gunn and Peter Safran that he is no longer playing Superman which really sucks for him.

I know that James Gunn has been brought in to reboot the entire DC universe franchise and whilst I do acknowledge that he is a good filmmaker, I'll reserve my judgement on how he does as a CEO.
Decided to watch "Cool Runnings" on Disney+ for the very first time and overall , I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

Nowadays, it is very uncommon to see sports-based films as of today. But I can pretty much understand why "Cool Runnings" is a classic which is loosely inspired by the Jamaican bobsleigh team that made its debut during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. The performance of the cast is very likable in which they were able to act in character and the biggest plus of "Cool Runnings" is that it is able to convey and craft a story that is meaningful and engaging whilst keeping with the entertainment value.

    My overall rating: 8/10
Someone on Twitter still does not acknowledge Miles Morales is a Spider-Man, I really wonder did they acknowledged what the late Stan Lee once said regarding to the web-slinging hero's creation:

I acknowledge that Miles Morales is a Spider-Man, just like how I consider the likes of Ben Reilly, Miguel O'Hara as well as Peter Parker himself as a Spider-Man.
Hearing what is going on with DC films doing a full reboot of their slate is almost like watching Thanos snapping everything away from existence.

Either ways, I do feel that a reboot was bound to be coming for the DC cinematic films (even though at the same time, it can be quite a risk), but I guess we will have to wait and see what James Gunn and David Safran have in store.
