I've heard people entirely convinced on both sides, and for the record.. y'all sound arrogant lol. I can see this leak being real, and I can see it being fake. Like literally there are so many things that look and feel wrong with the scans, but I wouldn't put them past releasing an unpolished looking CSS and stage select screen. Make all the "It's the 3DS" excuses you want, it's below Nintendo's and Sakurai's usual standards.

I personally don't mind the potential leak's roster too much, plenty of characters to fool around with, and potentially some more? I have on idea.

#teamanythingcanhappen
I'm personally #TeamRealButItCoukdBeACleverFake. But the stage select looking unpolished doesn't mal it fake or not. As @CapnMuffin said it could just be drawing more attention to the lower screen
So, I have been lurking around this thread for a little while now, and I have seen all of the evidence.
Ignoring my personal stance for now, I noticed something odd about the Duck Hunt Dog's render: someone managed to make a higher-quality render of it than what is shown in the leak. You've probably all seen it by now; it's in the second post.

It's a little bizarre that someone could be able to make this fake that looks like the actual source material for the render. Joalro has been very thorough, so I assume that when confronted with this image, he or someone else would have done a reverse image search to try to track where this came from. However, just for my own sake, I decided to do one myself.

Very few results. Seems innocuous. However, if we zoom in a little...

Well, that certainly shouldn't be possible.

I opened the page to investigate, but the site's interface is such a mess that I could only find posts from up to four days ago.

Is this a mistake with Google's algorithm? That seems like the only possible explanation. If someone else could do some more investigating, that would be great. It's probably nothing, but this image's whole existence just seems fishy to me.
Very interesting, perhaps the "7 days ago" is when the thread started and someone has it as there profile picture as people here do?

Take a look at this guys...

Now I know this could be a far-fetched conclusion, but these two models seem a little....identical.

That's possible. Really, the meaning of the 7 days ago is what makes or breaks this thing's relevance. If it is when the thread started, for instance, then it's meaningless. If it's when the image was posted, though, this puts the whole leak in jeopardy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just when the thread started because if I remember correctly we did a search before and didn't find it. "We" being a person on smash boards

How hard would it be to edit that picture and make the a look like an e?

Where does the picture with the e come from?

I actually wouldn't mind if the leak was legit. I still would like DLC, and if their all, "DLC Characters would take up the whole character select screen" I'll still say, "you can have the whole screen centered and program it to scroll across left or right if you want to select a character that is off on the side of the screen." If it's true that Sakurai isn't planning on DLC, then I'll calmly accept that.

Then, of course, you have your Mewtwo fanbase, and I for one couldn't care less if he's in it.. However, in regards to the Ice-Climbers, if this leak is legit, it's a shame...

so after days of research i noticed something interesting which could prove this leak just a little... first off look at this pic of the day: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAADMUKl5HASABg now in the background on the top right you can see a big circle then a smaller one in the middle of the circle that's bigger... Sakurai stated everything's animated so id imagine the background will have moving things in the background... now this leaked photo: http://37.media.tumblr.com/5dbaf53f3c654780868841d503a13f4b/tumblr_nal7ms44rR1tfyuj4o6_500.jpg you see the two circles but moving farther up to the right. This is just something i noticed when looking through the leaks

Someone made this in a few minutes in Photoshop to mess with people on 4chan. It's that simple.

SSB4.jpg

This is my best guess for the final roster. I'm assuming that a) the CSS is incomplete and b) Mii Fighters are a customization option only available some of the time. I think the leak is legit based on 3 factors:

1. The enormous amount of art that would need to be generated for such a leak (Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, etc) plus the stages and such, and they all look professional.
2. An EXACT replica of the interface we have seen already including the infamous spacing differences found on the character level bars. No faults have been found when comparing this to the E3 demo.
3. The Tomodachi stage's asian room layout. It was confirmed by a Famitsu scan immediately after the leaks and show the room is configured in a way wholly unique from the actual Tomodachi game.

I don't care if the CSS and SSS look bland and dull - they're still as legit as the ones found in the E3 demo. This is caused by a technical limitation, nothing else. Fitting 54 character slots on the 3DS screen only gives you a box the size of less than 40 square pixels (per character) - there's no room for pretty stylization or even text for names. The Wii U version has a traditional SSB aesthetic just like the last three games.

Personally the only character I have in mind for possible DLC is Snake. Only because Kojima pleaded to Sakurai to put him in in march. That may cause him to be DLC. Whether it's free or not? That's for Sakurai to decide

EDIT: of course the DLC section is fake, but I'm basing my claim off there.

Also Ice Climbers being cut makes so much sense when you look into it.

Hopefully this is the final explanation image I have to do for everyone.

It comes from MasterLinkX after he admitted he edited the picture just to throw off people.
I never admitted to being the one to edit the "a" in the "Disabled" image, this was just all assumption by some people, despite me claiming that it was Anonymous that edited it in my first explanation picture.
The "a" in the image that was posted IS the original image that went live first. I just edited it to look like an "e" recently to shut everyone up about the whole "Disablad" thing, as I have that confirmed to say Disabled in the source material. I'm not going to provide a new image to prove this, as that requires the public to receive a brand new image, which is what I am not here to do. So that is the reason I just slapped up that minor edit. (Which was deceiving, so sorry for that.)

*Update*
The time of my upload of my Shulk edit on the Imgur server: (Pointed out by Vashzaron of Neogaf)

My Smashboards Shulk post was posted here:

I traced down the archived post of the original leaker, and found it here:

Not sure if this has been brought up about Ness and his shirt curve

In two POTDs we had Sakurai show us two cases of paying attention to minor details:
1. Mark of Naga in Lucina's eye
2. Bottom side of the bumper having a design/details to it

Why include these minor things, but break precedence on Ness' shirt?

Surely if it's a technical limitation than it's a poor design choice that Sakurai wouldn't have made. You honestly think a triple AAA game designer from Nintendo would chose a flawed, crappy looking menu than that. Even the previous games had the grace of separating classic stages from the modern stages in order to make it feel more organized. Why wouldn't he just make separate screens like last time?

Yes this DOESN'T prove that the leak is fake, but it puts the question forth of why Sakurai would change a VERY simple design choice that provides organization.

What makes you think the design has changed since the E3 demo? The game was not in an early stage - in fact the game would have been deep into debugging at this stage with less than 6 months remaining before release. This aspect of the game had been finalized by time the game was shown at E3.

That's a good question as it's on figures too...

Edit: it had been brought up but no one really discussed it and everyone just said "maybe it was changed"

Why does Ness look a little off? He has no glare in his eyes, it's like they're just black dots with no reflection.
EDIT: Never mind, seems like Ness never had any reflection in them...? (It's 5:30 AM over here, I really need to go get some sleep).

Anyway, it'd be great to have Duck Hunt dog in, but... why would he/they be simply called "Duck Hunt"? Is it to follow the steps of Ice Climbers where instead of being called Popo & Nana they wanted to reference the game they were from? Because I'd at least dig Dog & Duck or something.... Heck Hunter was a pretty cool sounding name for the dog. XD

Yeah, could have been changed.
Mark of Naga in Lucina's eye though isn't something you take ignore or take away. The shirt detail isn't quite as important, though it is strange that it would be in the other games and absent in this one.

Any points being made at this point, or most of them, seem to be redacted immediately because everyone's spent the past 3 nights staying up with this leak. Get rest guys. Maybe someone will crack this tomorrow

I doubt it. Unless Sakurai posts a picture that can point us in the right direction or there is another leak. I don't think we are gonna get anywhere.

If the leaks are real, the roster should look similar to this:

Includes the Ninka/Vanroose leak, with the speculation part (Ridley, Chorus Men, Mewtwo, Dixie),
and the ESRB CSS leak.

That'd be so nice.

After the past few days, I'm torn on this leak... I'm leaning 70% real... which is a stark contrast to my initial 15% real rating when it was first leaked...

I'm just soooo used to leaks being completely annihilated by concrete and convincing evidence... google image renders, graphical inconsistencies, or admissions of guilt by the creator... I've even seen a "computer graphic specialist" get involved with this leak (and he couldn't disprove anything other than the images all originated from the same device).

At this point, if this thing is fake... the conspirators should be patting themselves on the back... well done guys... you sure did your homework...

The addition of Ridley, Mewtwo, and Dixie literally make this a perfect roster for me. In my opinion the clones do nothing but add a bit more choice, and, of course, 8 new customization options for the base characters, (assuming that Doc won't have a fast pill, and a giant pill, and so on...).

I'm still on the fence, as I'm sure most are, but if this is the final roster I could not be happier.

If it's fake, the only regret I will have is getting so attached to the idea of Duck Hunt. I mean look at him, he's adorable.

I have a feeling Dr. Mario's FS will be somewhat cloney too. But it could very well be unique.

I'm thinking "Dr. Finale" and instead of fire spins/twisters it will be pills. Just saying XD

The image that was in his post was the CSS icon for Shulk.
Which is conveniently seen in my post as well.
I will admit I did not trust what you were saying at all but this so far I can believe as I did some quick research.

Copying over what I said in another forum:
Found an archive here (EST -5) and the time (BST) his image was uploaded seems to line up roughly with what he says, sooo... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He may be telling the truth unless someone can find Shulk's render posted before that even, or you can think he was lucky as hell in fabricating his shoddy one that is in the same pose. (or you can think the whole leak is fabricated.)
I'm more inclined to believe what you specifically said on your side of the leak now because I do not think you got lucky in your Shulk render being in the same pose as the other leaker's render, but on the whole leak overall we'll see.

On Ness being a little off (specifically, his eyes) I believe it's because they don't have the purple bit in them. In Brawl at least, their lower halves are a deep purple. Here, they are purely black, as far as I can see.

if the leak is fake could somebody hire the artist who did the duck hunt model? because it is a fantastic fake if it is fake
Yeah, it's the centerpiece of the entire leak... as gorgeous as it is... it's bothersome that it still could be a sham...

Whoever designed it knew what they were doing... Combining the whimsical nature of a smash brothers game with the nostalgic retro feel of duck hunt in such a magnificent way is no small feat...

The artist should feel accomplished... that's for sure...
