Guys, important message!

I e-mailed the guy from Gamersworld awhile back (Argora's request) saying I'd be the "representative of the community. Here's my message:

Hello ......,

My name is Joel, and I will be the 'representative' of the Montreal Smash
Bros. Melee community on Wednesday, since Agora will not be available to
make it to the following Bi-Weekly. My handle on Smashboards is "ThatGuy",
if that is of any concern, but I usually prefer to go by my name .

I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to use your establishment for
these events. You don't understand the depth of my appreciation for this,
I'm really happy that this all came through.

I believe you were planning on creating tournament speadsheets for the future Bi-Weeklies. I highly suggest using "Tourney Master", a VERY useful program when it comes to creating tournament spreadsheets. Attached to this e-mail is the program if you wish to download it and tinker around a bit. It even creates its own html page with CSS and everything for ease of upload.

I personally don't know too many settings as I normally only do double
elimination with randomized placements. My personal favorite skin is
"tri-color". Here's an example of what it looks like (this is a bracket
taken from a school tournament that I hosted recently, the first of 2 that
happened this semester...I'm also planning on having 4 next semester!):

http://linux2-cs.johnabbott.qc.ca/~c...JAtourney1.htm

I am Joel Daignault, and I believe you (or someone else there) may be
acquainted with John (Eric) Byrd, as he has been to your store on multiple
occasions for WCG Brood War tournaments. He goes by the handle of Jarc on
Smashboards.

I also made a thread specifically for these Bi-Weeklies, so if there is
any information you would wish for me to add or change, please let me
know!:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=90446

I look forward to meeting you and participating next week. I will be
showing up there early with a friend of mine.

Regards,

-Joel

P.S. Regarding the Tourney Master program, you have to "register" the
product in order for the program to allow more than 8 participants. There
is a CD key in the notepad file in the zip folder. Use that to register the
product. Enjoy!

His response:

Hello Joel,

Sorry for the late response but the Holiday season is coming up fast, and we
have so much stuff to do. I saw your program and it's great, although we
have an on-line one that we will set up for everyone that we can see and
update live, and have players register online. I'm setting it up tonight and
I'll send you the link once it's done, I don't know if that gives enough
time for the players to register for Wednesday though. I've contacted
Nintendo and waiting for a response although I think that prize support will
only be available in January if they say yes, therefore we will hold
official tourneys then. This Wednesday I was thinking of maybe set a round
robin ranking system, and maybe give out a simple prize like t-shirt and cap
or something similar. Let me know what you think, oh and say hi to John.

Cheers!!!

......

OH SNAP FREE CAP AND T-SHIRT!

What should I reply with?

Well hey, that answers some of *my* questions.
I sent him a mail like an hour ago asking about some of the things you answered here :p

Additionally, I asked him about the mysterious missing Bi-weekly at the end of the month, and confirmed that we would go with the TV placement as we had concluded 2 weeks ago; TVs on either sides and chairs in the middle. Hopefully they will be more spaced out this time around to allow easier movement.

So unless there's something I forgot, I think we've got everything covered for the moment.
Quite the nice mail ThatGuy, apart from spelling my name wrong! >_<

Yeah so I'm interested in these bi weekly events however I have never played Melee before :p . I'm also new to these forums (though I have been looking around for a week or so), but I learn fast. Not sure if I can make it tomorrow (since I haven't even received the Cube controller I ordered yet) but I hope to participate in the future so you guys can own me as I learn how to play.

P.S. I did play SSB 64 extensively so maybe I won't be THAT lame :dizzy:

Well, if you want, I can bring a second controller that you can use, I don't mind. It works just fine, don't worry : ). BTW, welcome to the community ;D. You should introduce yourself in the Montreal Thread, that's where all of us go to spam.

Haha, well I don't know I might show up early and then leave early, cause I also have a plans to go see a movie @ 9.
I'll introduce myself there then (haha spam) but I'm really anxious to see how badly I'm going to suck compared to the rest of you who have been playing since the cube came out!

Well guys, I had a ton of fun at this Bi-Weekly. I really liked the establishement, and the management staff was really enthusiastic about everything, and they sounded like they knew what they were doing. I was content :D

They are proposing to turn these bi-weeklies into a tournament series. There will be a seeding system; however, they want to start fresh, so our Power Rankings will not apply. The first tourney will therefore be a round robin to get things underway, and anyone that will be joining afterwards can simply jump into the fray. I'm going to stay in touch with the store to see how they will be going about this (Start with a set amount of points and go up or down based on ranking, or all start with 0 and work our way up?).

Poke Floats > Vwins :lick:

The Bi-Weekly marks the first time I ever beat Jih and Vwins in friendlies or otherwise >.> I guess that might mean something haha.

Team matches were uber fun I found :) but singles were instense and I got to figure out a lot of stuff from them.

CHET where were you? :(

I think I'll be able to make the next one, woo. Also, the store owner is going to contact me (or Agora probably) about online registration. They want people to sign up online on their web site, I'll add the link when we get it.

The next Bi-Weekly is Thursday, December 21st. Check the first post for updates!

Pis je vais checker pour organiser un gang bang... il manque de débauche dans la communauté de smash.

EDIT: J'exige que Daisy101 change d'avatar. Since I own more than him and I have been using this avatar since forever.
