Final Smash 2: S.O.S.'S Revenge

After the great time everyone had at the first Final Smash, I just didn't want to say goodbye to Melee just yet. It wasn't perfect, but since Brawl has been delayed, I know I can do it better. Last time, I was only expecting 40 to 50 max. But all 3 states (TX/LA/FL) showed up, there was 72 entrants for singles, 28 teams and 9 crews, and I couldn't have been happier. It is far and away the biggest player ran Smash tournament in Texas since MOAST 3. I hope this will only be bigger and better.

Rules:

Singles/Teams/Low Tier

Double Elimination
Matches will be best 2 of 3.
Finals and Semifinals will best 4 of 7.
Random stages: Final Destination, Pokemon Stadium, Dreamland 64, Fountain of Dreams, Battlefield, and Yoshi's Story
Banned stages: Yoshi's Island (Pipes), Fourside, Onett, Hyrule Temple, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Mushroom Kingdom 1 and 2, Venom, Yoshi's Island 64, Peach's Castle, Kongo Jungle, Jungle Japes, Great Bay, Poke Floats (However, any stage is open, as long as both players agree to it)
No items.
Time Limit: 8 minutes
4 stock
At the beginning of a match players can opt for a double blind pick.

Each player can strike one non random stage.

At the start of the first round, each player can use one random reset.

After the first round the loser picks the stage, the winner decides what character he will play and then the loser will pick their character and the next round will begin.

Stall tactics such as Rising Pound and Peach Wall bomber are banned, unless they are for recovery purposes.

No controller mods/macros, etc.

Anything not mentioned here is considered MLG rules, with the exception of the following:

WOBBLING IS BANNED. If you are wobbling for more then 2 second:mad:s, you will forfeit the round.

Crews:

Single Elimination (Double Elimination if time permits)
Random Stages: Final Destination, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium[/I]
20 stock divided among 4 or 5 players.
Each crew will have a team captain. The captain has the final word on who plays when and what character. Each player will select one character before hand, and must stick with that character until the other crew is defeated. Players can normally only change characters between rounds.

Before the first match, each crews declares their characters and players on paper. The paper is then traded to the other crew leaders. This prevents any unwarranted changes to characters.

First round is a blind pick and then the losing team counters with a player of their choice. If the losing crew wants to choose the next stage, that gives their opponent the chance to counter pick their character.

IF any other town wants to challenge SAN ANTONIO then by all means it is welcomed.

SOS's Totally Random Tournament

It's basically like this:

Round 1: Both players pick entirely random characters and HAVE to use them. Then the stage is random (ALL stages on)
Round 2: Players switch to each to the other player's character (i.e. Me Luigi You Link, then it's Me Link You Luigi) Stage selection same as before
Round 3: If it happens, new random characters are selected (No repeats). Random stage again.

It's single elimination, and other than that, all the standard rules from above apply.

Post that you are coming (and be serious about it). You will be added to the list under your state.

Hey guys, I talked with the Gamelot owner, and I have some big important news:

Gamelot is 24 hours on the weekends. This means we can handle any number of singles entrants that get thrown our way. Also, I think we can promise the random tournament, and I suppose low tier after singles nears finish. NOTE: I won't be there all night, but there will be store staff there. If for some reason you want to smash until dawn, be my , but don't come crying if you are still late for teams and crews.

AND NO, YOU CAN'T CRASH AT GAMELOT.
The owner would get in major trouble for it.

NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK unless by permission of the manager. Seriously, why would you want to go across the street, and buy something that Gamelot has for less:confused: Plus there was a lot of trash left over. Now, if you are getting something you can't get at Gamelot, chances are it is good. Anyways, just ASK first and you will be good. Or you will hear it from Cliff.

Computer area is for paying customers only. There is now a LAN gaming area, with a plethora of games (sorry, no Starcraft) but only if you pay. You can expect to get kicked out if you go back there without paying.

THERE IS NO WIFI. So you will have to check your myspace/e-mail/smashboards/porn before you get to Gamelot. The only internet available will be to me behind the table. I will see about Tio running the brackets live and online.

Lastly, if you weren't thinking about bringing your cube/tv/power strips, no, take it, chances are we can make use of it. If it isn't needed, just put it in the car or something.

Cameras, camcorders, video recording equipment, bring it! I want to make this memorable.

That is all people, please spread the word, this is an important update!

Second Post!

Good **** it looks good.
You should also ask people for extension cords, you really will need them and lots of TVs. Also does gamelot have enough tables? I think it does but thought I should ask.

Maybe add a list of who's bringing setups or other stuff.

Low tier tourney if there's time?

Add me too. Also, at the end of our last thread, there was mention of kicking out people with bad smells.
Not to offend, but more often than not fat people produce foul odors more frequently and quicker.

So...get some antiperspirant. Not just stuff that smells good. Otherwise we get a nasty smell with a good smell which is still a nasty smell.

And Kite, do you wanna come over? My address is 13822 Kingsbury Hill, 78217.
Mapquest it.

Kyle I am not sure you know this but "!st" isn't a valid placeholder in my opinion.

Currently, I expect to attend, as with the last. Only this time, I intend to make several changes, since *this* will instead likely be my last tournament (operating on the assumption that Brawl turns out to be as boring as I currently have every reason to believe it will be).

First, I will play more friendlies, and may even engage in some MMs with players of my choosing (Sethlon, I'm coming after you). Never fought a decent G&W player? Seek me out (just don't be too surprised if you win :( G&W isn't like most other low-tiers, who have tricks and... goodness... There's a reason he's so low :'().

Second, I suppose I'll make my Sheik good again for one last challenge. Last time I wanted to mostly play for fun, but I didn't really stick with it all that well. So this time I'll try to place better. Oh, and this means I'll be more likely to feel qualified to participate in teams and crews.

Third, I expect I'll require housing this time, but I haven't worked that out yet, so I hope someone out there enforces a decent curfew, will keep people quiet, and can guarantee reliable, punctual transportation. I realize I'm asking a lot of fellow gamers there, but... actually, that's not really a lot to ask.

Also, regarding the stench policy, I hope we can have someone checking at the door, and then at random intervals during the tournament, kind of like drug tests. I don't want to get mindgamed into losing because I can't see through the green cloud around my opponent. Nor do I want to be walking along, minding my own business, looking good and exuding confidence, when suddenly, I hit some Bad Dude's vapor trail like an ant stumbling across a snail's slime, and then my eyes tear up, and I start stumbling into shelves and displays, and one of those $70 models falls and breaks, and then I bump into the table where Shaky McNeverLaid is attempting to paint his prized new Darth Teflon mini and cause him to apply eyeshadow when he meant to accentuate the ripples in the second bicep on the right, and suddenly there's a riot and it's all because (a) certain individual(s) I have in mind couldn't maintain proper hygiene. Please, think of the nerds.

Also also, low-tier on the first day if at all pl0xorz.

Dang Boi get back to Texas so we can hang =)

Nick your place doesn't seem to exist =( least google maps can't find it... did you give the right address?
I'll just give you a call next time when I'm around my house and you can give me directions or something.

Yay Galt's coming again! I expect more friendlies =)

Also I think pools would be quite nice to have at this tourney and would help keep things running smoothly and seed people semi correctly this time, so I just want to check if people are OK with this and if they maybe wouldn't mind doing some kind of online registration thing to help set them up before hand.
If anyone knows a good site or program to help set up pools and the like please let me know. If nothing else maybe we'll just do pools based off the people interested in coming list on the first page... but I prefer it was done a bit more professionally.

Edit: 900 =)

fl you're serious noobs if you dont make it. seriously get over there.

and i know some of la will make it, we tend to just let each city fend for themselves. im hoping baton rouge can find a ride.

and like kite was talking about pools for bracket seeding would be so choice. everyone should totally push for that as well.

No closet this time. We're guaranteed the main store this time for both days. So this time as long as we get there a little early and have extension cords we'll be able to set up a lot of tables and even more TVs all over the place so no one gets bored =)

KM, would there be friendlies available on both days? I say this because more likely than not I won't play the first day if I go.

Friendlies only as TVs open up. Tourney of course gets priority for all TVs and reserves the right to kick people off friendlies to get matches done. Though, there should be more then enough TVs this time, at least hopefully, so I'm sure you'll be able to find open TVs to play on.
Espy you should enter. If we're doing pools you're guaranteed a lot of great matches =)
Would people want just one round of pools for a 64 man bracket or two rounds for a 32 man bracket, or just one larger more restrictive round for a 32 man bracket?

i'll play MvC2, hehe...but i'll MM anyone any amount for Kirby's Avalanche/Dr.Robotnic (1st to 10 wins) if anyone plays that.

i'd personally rather pools, but that would require alot more time and supervision from the tournament organizers and more TVs and space. If they think they can actually do it, i think it'd be a funner and fairer tournament...otherwise, we should stick to brackets.

With the expetion of LA's Kyle(who impressively got 5th at final smash), i'm posititve the rest of us will perform better this go...in addition to the fact hopefully our missing region from the tournament (new orleans) will be able to make it this time.

Consider it done, sir. But I'll warn you in advance: I have a winning record in G&W dittos against fastliketree (I think we've only played one, and that was on his Smash kiosk which he'd just won from the Dpad, but I still totally won).

Also, the good thing about pools is that they give everyone the chance to fight more people in a tournament setting. And then, assuming you make it out of pools, you're already warmed up for competition, and it's a less stressful transition. So if it's practical, I'd also like to see pools happen.

assuming u get roughly the same turnout as Final Smash 1....70ish people...
what would be the best pool system to use, considering entrants, time, and resources...
10 pools of 8, top 4 advance would seem good. (plus you'd have a few empty spots in several pools, so it'that would save some time too)
Afterward..you're left w/ a 32 man bracket. 1st round can be fought using rank 1-pool-advancers fighting 3s, and 2's fighting 4s.

i'm sure it would take the entire 1st day...but it'd be worth it, imo.

Also...is any able to house some of LA?
dunno who alls coming yet..but i'm positive at least 2 carpools should make it.

Pokefloats is banned, eh? Interesting.

I agree, low-tier first day would be amazing. Definately put it after singles, though. Since we won't be stuck in Da Closet this time around, singles will probly run faster.

SOS, d'you honestly expect people to go to sleep at your place at 2am? Thats what you guys said last time, and you an' bear were both still up at 5am when i fell asleep, lawl.
