Well as the Title says I'm having trouble agaisnt my mate who just learnt to play this morning-and is actually pretty good with him :-)(Thats VERY good as only i think 2-4 people actually know how to play ssbm-and as i'm only 10 I can't go round asking-especially In Liverpool.)Im ok in the beginng as whenever he does an arrow or a bomb Zelda's B can reflect it(though sometimes his sheilds blocks it :p)but it's when I get up in the air he just starts spamming his Up Smash (He can do it quickly as I taught him how to use the c-stick)And when I try to DI he just follows-and when i try to teleport he attacks me so it cancels it!

I can get him in the beginning with Din's Fire and reflecting his projectiles-but then when is do her aerial forward(the one were the foot kicks them-Like Taste mwa foot!)then as soon as I get close he just knocks me away(I normally beat him but once or twice he has won!-and My sister will hardly ever play 2-player and playing agaisnt Coms dont give much experience(God,that sounds like pokemon-but I'm not skitting it as it's ok-but dont get me started on the Anime-Nayway i can't watch it as I havnt got Sky :p)
Can anyone give me any tips-or videos(I am curently watching the vid by Darktama-And your really GOOD,Maybe even Godly. You must really have the triforce of wisdom.God that sounds so sucky-but I don't know what to say :p

How ironic. My brother and I are epic rivals when playing. I play as Zelda/Sheik, and he plays as Link. I am entirely sick of this combination, but seeing as this is my most familiar fight, I can definitely give some advice. You're lucky in the first place that Zelda is a more horizontally oriented character in the air. By this I mean that Zelda can move left or right in the air much more so than a character like Sheik or Falco. Link is a slow runner, so first try and confuse him by alternating which side of him you'll come down on. If he can still remain under you, then do an Air Dodge to any direction (except for upward directions) when he Up Smashes. A diagonal Air Dodge into the ground should get you out of harms way, and allow plenty of time for recovery- Link's Up Smash is a time consuming move. Another strat I could advise, though this is more complicated, is using Din's Fire. Try performing Din's Fire when moving completely one direction (left or right) in the air, as you descend. Zelda will almost stop falling, and hover for a short time in the direction you were falling and casting Din's Fire. Also, if you are coming down on him, and have a jump left, use it to dodge his Up Smash, then FF and do your nair. Shuffle if you can. This shouldn't be a problem, really. I've never had this kind of trouble.

Edit: Never mind, it doesn't matter which way you cast Din's Fire. You will just float away in the direction that you were initially falling.

lol you shouldnt have trouble against link
Do you know of any good vids of Zelda vs Link where Zelda shows off some handy methods? I could use some strats myself sometimes. I'll say that my common Link rival spams his fsmash frequently, and I have trouble, because my instinctive response is to block. I continue blocking when he does the second follow up attack, but it comes under my shield. I get the same thing when I try to roll behind him, and he does his dsmash. What should I do in situations like this? WD more?

aim your shield to stop the second slash, rolling on a link is usually not a good idea anyway...especially a roll as slow and with as small a range as hers..you should be able to punish links heavy weight.

The kid said he was only 10. Maybe some more appopriate advice. Excuse me younggeorge, what Umbreon Mow meant to say was:

light shield him, then kick him.
Btw, take his advice. He's the best Zelda player in the entire United States, probably the world. I'm not joking either.

Um I think it's better to just shield...

I don't really know how to play Link well, I just stand around, reflect back projectiles, teleport in a safe direction, and shield until I see an opening to kick him in the face (and personally I think Din's Fire is a very situational move, maybe only for mindgames and edge-guarding).

I have trouble edge-guarding Link and getting around his projectiles; plus, since Zelda is so slow I have a hard time moving in. And once I'm in the air its like T_T so yeah. For me there are only two Links around for me to play: one that I can pretty much beat every time, and one that will beat me every time, so I don't have much experience against Link. Stick with UmbreonMow's expertise and light shield to foot.

Anyway, this should probably be in another thread but besides spacing with fair/bair, how does Zelda control her side of the field efficiently? Also how does Zelda move in without getting punished? My friend plays Fox and after a while gets tired of u-throw -> lightning kick and just starts lasering and running, so this has always been a difficulty for me.

A cowardly laser fox is always an issue for Zelda due to a speed issue. Becoming Sheik may help, but it's still being "cheap"

As far as the question being asked, Zelda has a little problem against Link. It takes a larger percentage to KO him as he is heavier, so it makes for a prolonged fight. Zelda is KO'd easily vertically, which is what the Upsmash does. Don't reflect projectiles too much, it leaves you open, especially close range. Dash left and right in place (known as the dashdance) and await him to come, then plant the fair or bair on him and keep on going. Zelda can do some nice combos on Link due to his weight, but he can do some equally severe punishment back.

If you want to make him angry, turn into sheik and chaingrab him. >.>

I do often DD, especially when tech-chasing with Zelda, and I do use Sheik as well, and do use chainthrowing. However, when you say "plant the fair or bair on him", do you mean to just SH and hit him on the way up? Also, I have a problem when fair/bairing on my way down from a jump- he blocks, and uses his hookshot to grab instantly when I land. Would an L-Cancel followed by a Dodge be able to prevent this?

the way down from a jump?? if he shields you should definitely have enough time to either jump again or roll/dodge
