I never taunt unless we both taunt at the beginning of a match. A ditto match always deserves a taunt at the beginning. I'll SD myself if someone SDs at a low percentage, but not if they tried to edgeguard me or something. And, as always, give a RESPECT or U.R.GOOD tag after a particularly good game.

1) If they taunt at the start of a match taunt back.
2) Put GG or GoodGame at the end of every match.
3) Don't taunt if you take a stock unless it was pretty badass and you just have to.
4) If you decide to use Captain Falcon it is your duty to show them ya moves.

5) If you spam then expect to get spammed back twice as hard.
6) If you land Captain Falcons Knee or Falcon Punch then by law you need to show them ya moves.
7) Don't be that one guy that spams counter every 3 seconds.
8) If your going to use Shulk he must be in only his briefs no questions asked.

1. Always SD if my opponent loses a life by obvious mistake.
2. Rarely ever use counter attacks, unless opponent spams them, then I spam back.
3. If I've had a long streak of matches with somebody I usually say 'thanks' then add them to my friends list.
4. If they have the same main as me, taunt at the start of the match.

Yeah, I'll suicide if they make a silly mistake. But really, I suck, so my main rule is to just try and win. I get pissed when people spam but it's just an opportunity to learn how to extinguish that silly business.

Not really a fan of mirroring someone's SD - while some might be grateful to you for doing so, it won't teach them how to come back from that situation in a non-friendly and other people might interpret it as a sign of disrespect.

I always try to throw up the "ggs" tag before bouncing though...even when the opponent is a camp-happy roll-spamming DH.

Never Switch Characters!
This may seem silly but I always feel that people who constantly switch their characters are very arrogant, which in my opinion is another form of disrespect. When I'm in a lobby with someone, I stick to the character I first chose. I feel that doing this will help my opponent learn how to fight the specific character I'm playing as.
I thought about the same, but never switching characters is a bit much I guess. You should give an opponent at least one rematch with the same character after you won, maybe more then one when the games were close. But I never see the moralic need to play a certain character for more than 5 matches, in case you want to change him.

It is not like everyone has this strict competitive mindset all the time, at least I hope so. When the opponent has more than one good character, I even like to see the others after a while. I consider a nice playstyle a bit like an "art", so when the opponent is good and well-mannered, I still want to win, but do not feel so much the need to "put him in his place". Instead it is a bit like getting shown a newly created song or picture by someone else. And when I feel that me and the opponent played the same matchup for a dozen times and we know each others patterns pretty well (that should not happen but It does, since I am not Mew2King), it can bring up some new fun for both to change the mtachup.

___

By the way, I really like to tag "well done" after I got beaten hard. The nice players shall know that I respect their skill and I am not a sore loser, while the douches shall know that they did not manage to piss me off. :p

I have my own restrictions, for myself only.

1.) If I start to trash an opponent, badly, then I don't edge guard. (It's a chance for them to think clearly.)
2.) After a KO, I go back to my corner passively.
3.) I never strike a Captain Falcon who asks me to show him my moves.
4.) I "GG" when I leave a game, win or lose.
5.) No women, no kids (Leon reference).

1) I never taunt unless it's at the start of a match, and even then I try to do the least insulting taunt I can if applicable. I find it really smug of someone to taunt after killing me if it was just your normal kill. (Falcon's an exception though, I can never be mad at a Falcon taunt)

2) If I win, I don't switch characters for a few rounds. I've had times where I really want to beat a person when they use whatever character they won with first, so I'd imagine people might have the same feeling if I win. I hate it when people leave or switch after one round, it burns me inside :(

Your retina to your occipital lobe as you read.
My only rule is that I avoid taunting.
This is pretty confusing since I also don't taunt and will usually attack a taunting opponent, but some players actually taunt as a form of expression and respect.

But I pretty much set up my own meaning of taunts depending on time used:

Start of game, may mean that the player wishes ''a good match'' or it may also mean ''I'll try to get you mad so you approach'', if you usually taunt right after you'l usually know if your opponent is a great guy or a butthole depending on how fast they come to wack you for it.

After a kill, may mean ''I'm proud of my kill'' or it may also mean ''I'll try to get you mad so you do stupid stuff when you respawn''. Since that taunt is usually safe so I can't be offended by it since anybody can do It after a kill.

Taunt after respawn may mean ''that was a good kill''.

Taunts in unsafe positions or unsafe times will usually mean ''git gud/your crap/you suck'' as the opponent is hugely underestimating you.

1) I main Falcon, and if I ever encounter another Falcon, starting with "Show Me Ya' Moves!" Is a LAW that MUST be followed. If they do not taunt back and instead hit me, they have lost my respect.

2) Taunt after every kill. I do not do this maliciously, and people who get mad/offended by this really should lighten up.

3) If the opponent is AFK, leave them alone.

4) Only SD after they SD if they made a REALLY unfortunate mistake.

I do this all the time, especially if I get spiked or we have an offstage battle and get on the losing end of it. I'm glad people know that I'm not doing it to be a jerk, I genuinely do it to say that it was a good kill.

A man after my own heart. I taunt at the beginning of most dittos, but it's absolutely mandatory when I see another Cap'n.

there's a few things that bother me when playing online.
1.NEVER RUN:Even if there's 10 seconds left and your at 100%. this only happens to me and my brother when we play 2v2.allot of players avoid being hit by running left and right or if your villager they get on there balloons and fly high.players like that have no heart.
2.DONT TALK **** IF YOUR GETTING YOUR ASS KICKED:(again I play allot of 2v2 to me it's more fun) but ihave come across players that after 6 matches of lossing they finally win the 7th and decide to say something negative and leave the room.please don't be that person keep fighting.
3.SPAMFAGS:this goes out to all you charzards, ness's,shulks and so on.if your gonna spam because you don't know better at least be tactical.
4.TAUNTING IS OK:only if you do a bad ass combo that lead to a kill or if you get em with a nice meteor smash.but it is not accepted if you throw someone of with a mediocre move.

1. I do not stall the game. We all have better things to do.
2. Never give up, even if your last-10-winrate against this opponent is 0%.

Everything else is permitted. Don't make things too complicated and don't try to be a white knight or gentleman where nobody cares about you.

My only code of honor is this: If the opponent taunts at the beginning, I taunt as well.

Other than that, I'm playing to win. I have two free taunts and then two earned taunts per match: You better believe I'm using them. It's all mind games. If the opponent gets butthurt and begins to think I'm a jerk for the taunting, that's their fault. If they kill themselves during a match, that's their mistake and it makes my win that much easier. If time is running out and they want to force a timeout to go to Sudden Death, that's a perfectly viable strategy. Playing with some code of honor is how you hold yourself back.

Taunt if they start with a taunt at the beginning.
Don't use mean tags.
SD if they got Lagscrewed to death somehow.

You people are no fun. 1.) Taunt after you kill. This is a must.
2.) Taunt if your opponent does something unbelievable. Like spike you with Elwind. Not that that's happened to me.
3.) If you both pick Mario, you MUST simultaneously side taunt. No exceptions. If you don't you are not a true Mario main.

I am the person who taunts at the beginning!
I taunt at the beginning just to show that FG is not hardcore, it won't be a super competitive match.

I taunt after kills, but only vs people I like fighting or I hate fighting.
If I hate fighting the guy (Spamming, salty, disrespecting hard) I taunt after a kill (Kirby's down taunt) to piss them off. Sue me.

If I like fighting them, it's to show that it was a good kill, a fun stock, and that it's all in good fun (Still Kirby's down taunt).

I taunt after I respawn.
I do this to say good kill to people I like fighting/oops I didn't mean to get hit by that or do that.

If I don't like them it's to piss them off. Sue me.

If I am having good and SERIOUS matches with someone, I will spam crouch or jump and do n-air/b-air until they respawn.
Some kills are not good enough to taunt/I don't really like my opponent enough to taunt, but I like fighting them enough to stay.

I will SD after they SD, if it won't end the game by doing so.
I don't like cheap wins, so I always do this if it was a regular frick-up. Even in tournament matches I would, and I tried but he suicided last stock last time.

I don't often change characters.
Unless my opponent does first or I was messing around with someone and they left after I pressed ready as a character I didn't like.

Try not to use my 'Scrub.' tag.
Some deserve it, but I try not to use it.

I don't switch to my opponents character.
Being Kirby, 3/4 salty scrubs change to my main and spam forward smash until they beat me and then leave. I won't do this.

If someone is calling me bad and disrespecting me with name tags, I reply with 'lol', 'wow', or ':('.
Just to show how much I care.

Well, this kind of disrespect kinda sucks. But you gotta admit when disrespect is done right (bizzarroflame-style) it's the life of fighting games.

I don't think I follow any of these...

My only "rule" is I play 1 game per person. Win or lose. I prefer to play a variety of people. I only own the 3DS version, so tags aren't really an option. You can't read into matches too much when there's no real way to communicate.

Honor? The only "Honor" there is is giving the opponent your best, and that means playing to win, no matter what "dirty" tricks need to be pulled.
