Your General impression of the average skill level in FG?

After playing around 700 FG matches, it seems like the competition keeps getting better and better. Random online FG is all I really do. (I just can't bring myself to play the single player modes...) Perhaps the casual gamers have dropped off over time, I haven't played a Little Mac in a long time. But I'm curious, what is your overall impression of the skill level in FG in the past couple weeks? Do I suck or are most people actually pretty good? Is FG helping you to become a better player? How has it changed your smash experience?

I heard you face opponents in For Glory and other modes similar to your W/L ratio, so it only makes sense that you'll play against better players if you win more. That being said from what I understand it's hit or miss, some people don't play it at all because FD is the only stage, which can help/hurt a lot of the cast tremendously having or not having platforms. Myself I'm probably an average/below average player, I've fought some awful players on For Glory, and I've fought some players that have absolutely wrecked me, so I can't really say one way or the other that For Glory is a certain way.

Matchmaking in for glory seems random to me.i get paired up with the typical FG players and then come across a flux of really good players and then back to the usual one's.

The skill level differs,it seems all of the good players play in the evenings and the average play in the afternoon.

It usually fluctuates for me. I have a 50% win/lose rate, but I'm getting better. Some days I get absolute beasts and lose every match, and others I am on a long winning streak.

Though, I mostly play at very late night. Because of that, I get a lot of international players, so I usually deal with a considerable amount of lag each time.

Does anyone have any actual evidence that FG matches are anything other than random? Has Sakurai said anything about it?

It may be upscaling, hopefully. New fighting games are like gym memberships around the new year. A bunch of people get them and start up to work on a resolution, but a bunch of them will give up and leave more dedicated folks.

I generally find good players during the night/early day. Kinda like Brawl, but yeah FG is getting better.

^this....

my win % in for glory is around 85%, and that was mostly with random characters. Occasionally I do find some decent-really good players, and I've had a few where they just flat out slaughtered me.

But those are very rare compared to the amount of mediocre, to just flat out bad, players I find most of the time.

I'm pretty sure for glory match ups have nothing to do with win/loss ratio im at 100 percent wins over the last 50 games and I still get really bad or new opponents lol. It may have something to do with the arbitrary global smash rating but who knows.

It is a mixed bag. I'll go through a good bit of people that need some practice and then out of nowhere, this boss of an opponent comes in. I think I can be pretty predictable too, so smart players catch on quickly.

A lot of so-so and decent players. There's people who roll and roll as if their life depended on it. You can probably find someone to match your skill maybe once in 50-100 matches. It's an alright mode, but the stage being FD only gets boring/unfair for certain players.

I would say for glory on 3DS average skill level is probably high level casual players, which I'd rank right below low level tournament players. Occasionally I'll come across someone with low to mid tournament skill, but not often.

Out of the ~4,000 1v1 FG matches I've played, that's what I've come up against. I rarely find a player who even takes a single game in a bo3 set let alone goes 50/50 or better with me, and I'm not that good.

Yeah, most of them need improvement. Lots of it.

And I hate saying that because even I myself need more than a truckload of practice.

But I find it hilarious when they freak out and don't even know that off-stage fighting exists.
And also facepalm-worthy when they don't even know how to up B.
I scared one away by using a semi-chaingrab and grabbed them like 5 times.
