Xbox controller woes

Hi all

I recently started playing smash on pc with a wired "pdp afterglow" 360 control and the buttons are great but I'm having a fair bit of trouble with the analog stick, specifically smashing and dashdancing. I've been having heaps unintended tilt attacks, especially on up and down smash and I'm even having trouble running unless I really slam the stick from a neutral position

Has anybody else had any experience with this particular controller, the boards definitely made the Xbox control seem like a good choice and I've got a wireless adapter on order to connect my other sets but I might cancel that if they're all like this.

Messing with the range and deadzone in N-rage doesn't seem to help as this just seems to ignore any input past a certain point (so that at range 80% full tilt moves the cursor slower than full tilt at range 100%).

Is there any way to actually compress the range? (eg. so 80% movement would register as 100%) I feel like this would make the sticks more sensitive and solve the problem but I can't figure out how to do it.

Calibrate the controller in windows, uncheck raw-data in the controller plug-in.
Never used this one though, still a chance it might be a junk controller.

The config tool was one of the first things I'd tried, switching off raw data might have made a small difference but I'm still getting heaps of unwanted tilt attacks and slow runs.

Maybe it's this afterglow, or maybe it's the afterglows in general, the well around the analog sticks is about 3mm wider than the legit 360 controls so I've really got to slap it around. Unless I can find a way to manually calibrate the range of the analog stick it's just not usable for smash.

I'm pretty impressed by anyone who uses one and can play competitively.

What config tool? The windows one right? Make sure you did it right and try 70 Range. That's what I have set.

I forgot all about Deadzone, funny considering mine is/was on 46 lol.
I ordered that adapter, should be here in around a week :) Can't play until then tho ; __ ;

Anyway yeah increase your deadzone a couple notches.

Yeah the only way it worked ok was by putting the range down to 80 and the deadzone up to about 40, that way I was slapping the control stick around heaps just to move so smashing was easier, though it didn't feel organic and smooth like the 64 did.
I hope the regular xbox controllers are better though, figure they must be if so many people recommend them... if all else fails there are a couple of gamecube controls in my cupboard

or you could use n64 controllers ...
^ This. I actually started out using a 360 controller but the usb n64 adapter is well worth it. I couldn't di how I wanted to with the 360, DJCing is really awkward with it... n64 is just better. It's nice that the stick won't wear out... only plus side to using 360
