So, just who are X AND ZERO?
Zero was not created by Light or Cain, however-he was the last creation of Dr. Wily, the antagonist from the classic series. Zero was created with a "Maverick Virus" in mind-making him evil. But when Dr. Wily tries to implement something into Zero's AI to make him even more evil, this backfires-since Zero is already infinitely evil, he cannot become "more evil", and so Zero becomes good, after a battle with the leader of the Maverick Hunters, Sigma.
But after being defeated, Zero transfers this virus to Sigma, which leads to Zero's joining of the Maverick Hunters and Sigma's eventual betrayal of the Maverick Hunters, not to mention his plans for an "ideal" world, where Reploids rule and humans are subject to genocide. Sigma also plants seeds of rebellion in many other Maverick Hunters...
Except for X and Zero, who have been best friends for quite some time now. Time and time again, they stop Sigma's attacks on the world together, despite the odds being stacked against them.
TL;DR X and Zero are good robots and they hunt down bad robots.
Okay, but who is X?
X, being the first Reploid, is a really interesting case. He uses his X-buster in combat, which can fire small pellets and charge larger blasts, and also has a Variable Weapons System, which lets him copy powers from defeated Mavericks. But despite being so strong, X is only a B-rank Maverick Hunter due to his hesitance to act when innocents are at stake. This could make him a weaker or stronger person than Mega Man, depending on your perception of him. X has a somewhat pacifist nature-while he wants to solve conflicts through discussion rather than by force, he's willing to go in, guns blazing, if that's not an option. X can also upgrade his armor, unlike Zero, with capsules hidden around by his creator, Dr. Light. These give him things like a midair dash or more defense.
Okay, but who is Zero?
Zero was destined to be a Maverick, but thanks to some faulty programming from Dr. Wily, this isn't the case. Zero fights with his Z-Saber, a powerful energy sword that can slice and dice foes like they're a well-cooked steak. He does have a Z-buster, though generally prefers the Saber. By defeating Mavericks, he can upgrade his Z-Saber to give it new combat potential-stuff like a fiery blade or an icicle blade. Zero is much more quick-to-action than X, and used to be stronger than him, too. However, it has gotten to a point where Zero wonders if X has gotten to his level, if not already surpassed him.
Why?
Mega Man X is easily the second most popular of the Mega Man series, for which already has a representative in Smash, Mega Man. A character from the X series seems like the next logical step-or, two characters. Which brings me to my next point-
Don't we already have a support thread for both X and Zero?
Yes. We have one support thread for Mega Man X, and another for Zero. But this thread is in support of X and Zero as a stance fighter, kinda like Pyra and Mythra. However, due to their wildly different playstyles in the X series, they would most likely only share one or two moves.
How would they play?
While X is best equipped for long and medium range combat, Zero likes to get in up close. They would both have a dash for a side B, though their other moves would be completely different.
How about alternate costumes?
I don't have access to Photoshop and the like, and wouldn't know how to use it if I did, but here's some ideas for alternate costumes:
Alt 1: X and Zero in their basic colors.
Alt 2: Double and Iris. As you would guess, X's colors are based on Double from X4, and Zero's are based on Iris, also from X4.
Alt 3: Doctors Light and Wily. X's colors are based on Dr. Light, being almost completely white-while Zero's are white, grey, and slightly black.
Alt 4: Purple. X's colors are based on his unarmored Ultimate Armor (when you enter the cheat code but don't get any armor pieces in X4), Zero's is based on Nightmare Zero from X6.
Alt 5: Swapped. X in Zero's colors and vice versa.
Alt 6: Gold and Black. X's armor is based on the secret Gold Armor from X3, while Zero's armor is based on the Black Armor.
Alt 7: Villains. X has a second purple costume, this time with colors referencing Vile. Zero's colors reference Sigma.
Alt 8: Command Mission and Omega Zero. X is based on his redesign from the Command Mission spinoff game, while Zero is based on his "redesign" from the Mega Man Zero series.
