We had been waiting decades for this glorious moment. After years of researching and listening we had finally found a way to communicate with Extra Terrestial Intelligence without having to wait years for their reply. At first the messages were extremely simple, only sharing the mathematic knowledge we had. After a few months of communicating they said they were going to visit the earth. The location of the earth in the universe had been given 2 weeks earlier. Their estimated date of arrival was October 14th, roughly 4 months after we received their message. The military all over the world was set in position to retaliate towards any hostile activity. It would have had no use, even if they had nuclear bombs. These aliens were more advanced than we were, being able to tame wormholes.
As the months slowly passed by, the news leaked and the public got to know about the 'visit'. The whole population was excited that they would meet ETI in their own lifetimes. October soon arrived, and the question on how to welcome our guests. There was no location given where the aliens would land. All that we knew back then was that they would come with a ship of approximately 1000 feet (about 4000 times the wavelenth of our communication waves. As the the 13th of October, a chilly friday arrived, there was both excitement and hysteria in the air. Many scholars had dissuaded us not to send the location of the earth yet, without knowing more about the aliens. Others were excited to get a chance to meet the aliens and communicate. They believed that if your society was not based on peace and moral, you would never get far with the technology without killing each other long before you could travel into space.
When the day arrived, there was no one in their houses. Everyone was outside, looking at the sky. It was rainy autumn day and the sun couldn't be found in the diffuse light. At 16:42 GMT, the ship was first spotted at the part of earth where sunset was setting in. This was in Russia, close to Moscow. As the ship was seen, people were struck with awe and some of them screamed out in panic. The ship was huge, about 1500 feet in length and 400 feet in width. The colour of the ship was mainly white and silver. There were many windows in the ship and it worked differently than human spacecrafts. There were 7 exhausts on the ship, 4 at the bottom to rise out the atmosphere and 3 at the back to propel it forwards. People were using binoculars and telescopes to catch a first glimpse of the aliens inside the ship, but there was no trace of them. The ship hung in the sky for about 2 hous, communicating with the nearest telescope. They asked for the best region to land, to which the answer was a big open field, about 2 miles south of Moscow.
The moment the ship landed, people came spurting out from moscow and houses in the area to come as close to the spacecraft as their hearts would take them. Authorities held the public back and made no-cross lines. The president of Russia came to the ship as fast as his driver could take him there. Once he arrived, the ship was still closed. The aliens inside were making readings of the atmosphere, seeing if there were any deadly bacteria and if the air was breathable or if they needed helmets and suits. All their readings were negative and it was safe for them to go outside.
I, as an authority on ET communication and a researcher at NASA, was very eager to go see the aliens, even though I was a part of the group of people discouraging sending the location of our earth. We left on a special NASA airplane, which could fly about 800 miles per hour, with 30 other people. I was traveling with the head of NASA, a group of researchers, 5 physicists and one astronaut who had earned the right to come along. It took us about 6 hours to get to Moscow, but it was definitly worth the trip. When we arrived, the spectacle had already started.
The aliens had exited their ship it seemed. The area around it was completely devoid of life and on the floor lay some dead bodies and green goo close to the ship. On closer inspection we noticed there was no shot wound or anything that made it seem like weapons had killed them. It felt eerie, as if something was watching us. We quickly returned, not having the courage to enter their ship. We had to find out where the aliens went and what happened with the people. Our best bet was going to Moscow and find the space center, where there could be some vital information. "John?" I asked my boss. "Do you think what we saw back there was the alien's doing?" His response was very clear: "Yes, I'm certain of it." I didn't bother to ask why. I knew exactly what he was thinking.
As we entered Moscow, we expected it to be full of life, but how wrong we were. Windows were shut close and all doors were locked. There was not a child outside, playing with his friends. We kept finding more and more of these dead bodies. We came at a huge square, the town's center I thought. There were some benches and huge buildings around it. On the northern side of it, there was the Moscow River. On the square we found more bodies than anywhere else. But that was not what drew our attention. We had just located the aliens, on the other side of the square. They were huge, about 8 feet, and the largest of the 7 there, was roughly 10 feet. They had special suits to protect them against any harmful weapons. Not even gamma rays can penetrate that, was what I thought. I then realized that those people had no shot wounds because no lasers or guns were used. The aliens had used gamma rays to harm people. They weren't wearing any helms so we could see their faces. We were shocked they see they looked remarkably like us. They had no fur and hair on their heads, but a quite odd skin. It had a greener skin than a normal human would have. Their teeth and eyes were huge, but their noses were unbelievably small for such great creatures, it were barely nostrils on a face.
Needless to say, we were scared as well as fascinated. The first one to tell us we should not stay here, was the astronaut James Alvert. He knew where the Moscow Space Center was and took us there as soon as possible. When we arrived there were a few people. The Russian president, the head of the Moscow Space Center, and 12 peope I didn't know. When we arrived we were greeted and let in. It was not safe outside. After we drank something, they asked us for our story. After that was told, we asked their story in return.
"Well," the head of the MSC said, "it started when the president and I came to greet the aliens. We gave them a sheet of paper which said in binary code that we only want a peaceful coexistence and stay out of war with each other. After we shook hands with the enormous beasts, we heard loud sound. It was a gun that fired and it hit the alien in the head. It was probably a paranoid ***-hole who couldn't wait to shoot his first alien. Needless to say, the aliens saw this as a sign of hostility and drew their pistols. They aimed for us and no one dared to move. We didn't know what it was. We heard another shot, and another alien fell dead. The aliens started shooting on people. Their guns made no sound and nothing came out of it. The people that were aimed at, fell dead right away. We have concluded the aliens used a high concentration of gamma rays, which can be fo-" "Yea, yea, continue the story, Joeri," the president said impatient waiting tly. "So as soon as we saw that..." Joeri continued, "...we ran like hell and got to the presidential car. We drove away as fast as we can and when I looked back, I saw the aliens carry their fallen ones inside the ship and call for backup. Not very late after that, the aliens were on our heels. They ran remarkably fast. We got to the MSC and lost them and now they are just here, killing every person they see."
"And what is it you are waiting for now?" I asked. "We called the military for some snipers to take out the remaining aliens," the president replied. "Are you crazy? DO YOU WANT TO START AN INTERPLANETARY WAR" I shouted. "We have to reason with them, not kill them. If the backup arrives and we haven't improved our relationship, who knows what the consequences might be. Their weapons technology is far, far more advanced. Look at the rampage only a dozen of the aliens caused." The president was looking as if he were thinking hard. Then he said to me: "I know that killing them may seem like the worst option, but we tried reasoning. They shoot any human that tries to approach them and they can't receive our radio messages without their ship. They will continue their killing spree and we have to stop them"
I could not argue one of the mightiest men on earth. Not long after, the snipers arrived and took the aliens out. I still believe this was the worst decision he could have possibly made. It is now 2 weeks since this happened. The backup should arrive in a few months and start ravaging the earth. The whole world's military is brought into place. Most of them went to Moscow, because that is where the alien signal came from, but it was not sure telling where aliens would land. The news has not yet leaked and I don't plan on telling it to anyone I know. I just spend so much more time with my wife and kids. I have already prepared myself on my inevitable death.

This is my first submission to WWYP, so I haven't had any real expierence on how to write properly. I feel like I've let the end very open, but I didn't think a freaking interplantery war would fit in about 600 words. The story is 1893 words, I don't have a word counter. It was written in 2 hours and thought of in the place :O I had limited time, because I'm going to be away for the day. The last day of WWYP

EDIT: TL;DR for Teran: Aliens come to visit Russia, a paranoid *** shoots 2 aliens, aliens be mad, aliens kill people with freaking gamma rays, snipers take out aliens, friggin interplanetary war breaks out.
