For the past 3 weeks or so, I've been writing a personal project. A story, Fiction, Sci-fi/Horror. I've planned the idea in my head for literally about half a year before I finally got around for opening up Word and pouring out my thoughts.

However, two days ago, something happened to the flow of my ideas. It gave me writer's block. Rather then no ideas on what to happen next, I had (and still have) too many ideas. So I was wondering, to any of my fellow writers or anyone with a sense to help, your thoughts on how to get rid of writer's block. Or if not to rid it, at least clear it up a bit so I can actually think.

btw, was thinking about putting it in Creative Minds. Couldn't decide on putting this here or there, so sorry if I chose wrong.

Unsung I know how you feel, I have been working on a sci-fi book for the past month and have hit writers block. It makes me sad.

Oddly enough, I have a sci-fi idea as well. Instead of calling them books or novels, I call them stories. I create an outline of plot points per story, with minor details, then I just write a story based on these plot points. The ones that are best for an introduction go first, and the ones for tying up ends in that story arc, go last. It's really useful.

I just worry, I'm nothing but a hack and my idea (which I've had for about 5 years) is just something I got elsewhere :(

Hey question, what kind of structure/ outline do you guys use for this?

Also, a good thing is just to take a break or free write. Go watch a movie, play some cards, smash... etc...

Surgery is the only way to get rid of writers block. It's a benign tumor, but it's a nasty little fella that sucks up all your creative juices.

Seriously though, I read when I have writers block.

Yeah, I've been writing that junky story I have in Creative writing for about two weeks now, and for the last week I haven't been able to think of where to take it next. Same thing with my personal story that I've put a lot of time and effort into. Just sit down and rest for a sec, and let your mind wander. Think of all the possible ways your story can continue, and how you could build of of them. And, as it's been said, it's always helpful to have a general idea of what your story will be like from start to finish, or else you can write yourself into a corner. Just take a breath and concentrate on getting your story to the end, and then beef it up afterwords.

Try taking a walk outside. I always have trouble writing songs and it helps to give yourself a chance to think about things. Also, if you want to think of it in a physiological way, more blood (oxygen) will go to your brain.

Something that could help is to write your ideas randomly without stopping to check if they make sense for a few minutes. Then go back all over it and choose the good stuff and put it in order. Then you can do what crimson king suggested and get that story going. Hope It helps^^

lol everybody one this board has been writing a sci-fi. I've been randomly adding a chapter or so to something i've been working on as well. My ideas come at radom through out the day. I will find one idea from real life. (Something a friend or aquantance does) and add it.

Sit down and think about your day right before you write. Thats what I do.
