Yeah...no...

"Fight Roster: Fighting out of games across the years come many of your favorite characters. Each one is highlighted with a full moves list, strategies, and more.
Moves List: Make smashing easier with a full moves list in an easy-to-follow format.
Hard Core Fight Strategies: Don’t just button mash! Turn to our elite expert author for the best strategies to achieve victory and bring your game to competition level!
Pick-ups: Learn what they do before you pick them up (or before they’re used on you)."

To be honest, I think that would kinda be a waste. I mean, advanced strategies before the game even comes out? Sure they've been working on this and had some time with the game, but still. Also, these would be some of the first strategies used by players, and consequently some of the first to be perfected then countered, only to be replaced by newer techniques (see: Triangle Jump to Wavedashing). Hopefully they won't be Dojo rehashes though. Even though I won't be getting a guide, I don't want one telling me that I MUST RECOVER!

They would just show techniques of how they used the characters. Advanced Techniques won't be used until we all had time with Brawl and discover what new tricks there are and whats old.

Why not tho? They have many employees probably, and theyre IN the video game business, who are we to say that there's nobody who's a big smash fan capable of learning the advanced techs.

According to Nintendo Power, they haven't been making guides lately. Rather, they've had Prima work on guides. Yes, my stomach churned at reading that, too...

Maybe I'll get just for the pictures and for characters. And if they have a poster.

Usually the players themselves are the ones to discover and develop their own techniques. A strategy guide isn't really necessary. Heck, even if someone wants to learn more techniques for practice, they can come to places like Smash World or they can go to Gamefaqs. Obviously the juiciest and deepest detailed fighting strategies won't be found in a strategy guide.

I mean yeah, strategy guides could provide a good fundamental basis, but I don't see any more usefulness after that.

Theres useusally more than one strategy guide maker, or there has in the past. For instance, when Pokemon emerald came out, I was at Toys R Us, and I noticed 3 guides.

One from prima (bleh)
One from Nintendo power (full of win)
One from Versusbooks (argh)

Now I think its just Prima, because I believe the others have stopped making them, but I could be wrong.

Prima books have sooo many errors. A long time ago I bought a Pokemon red strat guide made by prima. Under Beedrill's attacks, was listed "High Speed" as opposed to "agility" or not even adding attacks they have, or even skipping major sections of the game, as my Pokemon leafgreen guide did, bah.

**** you Prima. I hate you.

One of the pages in the Pokémon Yellow book had upside-down pics, and the Animal Crossing one had misplaced pics/names for villagers.

I saw that. Pre-orders were available. I was thinking of getting it. Then I saw it shippes Feb 10th. No thank you. the benefit is that you'll know all the characters and how to unlock them. i don't want to spoil it, personally. i'm getting the japanese version to play it earlier

Just come here.

That's all you need to do. Don't even have to click any posts, just look at the titles and you'll know the full roster, surprises, and mishaps.

I agree. Prima = Pail of Fail

A strategy guide is usually pointless for a fighting game. These people don't play the game NEARLY enough to know anything about how the game is played at a highly competitive level. One would be much better off looking towards a devoted online community like Smashboards or Shoryuken.

I'd quickly ignore them--I had the Melee Prima guide, and they had rather idiotic ways of grouping people, such as "get in, use big move, get out" people, hit and run, and in your face. The hit and run was accurate somewhat, but the others were laughable--and I was nowhere near competitive.

gamefaqs is better than prima
That is the greatest thing I've heard all year! That is now going into my signature as quote of the week or month, or whenever i find a better one and am not so lazy.. Thank you!

As for their "advanced techs," they will most likely be "You can grab people while using a shield" and "link can grapple edges!!!!"

I'd rather watch pros like Isai and learn them that way. Those guides are a waste of money IMHO. They are good for newcomers though.

It may not be perfect, but it's something to read while you wait your turn (I have to :( ).

Although, I will try to get a guide better than that.

I wouldn't trust Prima with anything.
Here is a quote from their SSB64 guide.
On Jigglypuff's Page
"Down+B, Sleep, this attack puts jigglypuff to sleep and is completely useless in battle. maybe a 2nd taunt?"

That's sad. I thought they were OK, but this changes everything.

Actually, I think that Prima is improving. Or i could be that the authors that wrote LoZ: Phantom Hourglass Were competent.

"Turn to our elite expert author for the best strategies" Wow I laughed so hard when I read that.

I can see it now How to unlock Soild Viper , How turn Zelda into Zero suit Zelda. and Wield the Triforce of Power with Link! (with a picture of Ike)

I kinda hate strategy guides. They always seem to screw up - I mean, in the Pokémon GS one, Nintendo just randomly stopped saying what Pokémon were in what area.

I'm buying the guide for the nice pictures, not for strategy.

Yeah...it's kind of the reason anyone would come to smashboards...to learn about this kind of stuff.

I've had Prime guides for Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Smash Bros Melee, and have generally been impressed. The Majora's Mask guide was VERY good and thorough. The SSBM guide was also very thorough. It lacks any real strategies, but I mostly buy the guide to be like a complete game manual (the one that comes with the game is more of a "quick reference" guide).

The Prima guide for SSBM covered all of the events, pictured every single trophy and described how to get them, listed and described every single bonus (the ones you get after a match such as "Eagle", "Jackpot" or "Walk, Don't Run"), named every move and gave damage ranges, etc. I would have liked to see zoomed out maps of all of the stages as well as target tests, as well as some other details, but I'm a perfectionist when it comes to guides.

....Oh, their Twilight Princess guide SUCKED though >_>

My Prima guide for SSBM was actually pretty bad lol. It just showed the basics. There was a little part on edgehogging but I don't think of that as really advanced. Maybe Prima will make two different smash bros. guides, one for beginners and one for experts.
