Just a hypothetical question, if you had a choice between Super Smash Bros 3DS, and both SSB64 and Melee being ported to 3DS, what you you pick?

To clarify the 64 and Melee games would be unchanged, the only addition being local multiplayer, no online.

Definitely not lol

I want a new smash game. I can play ssb64 on my phone.

To put it as tactfully as I can: when sm4sh comes out, my thoughts will be **** 64, melee, brawl, pm, and people who treat sm4sh 3DS as not a real game.

Maybe for the home console.

I'll take Smash 3DS on the 3DS, as it is better designed for it.

I already own 64 and Melee. While I would certainly get them both if they were thrown in the eShop or whatever, I would rather have Smash3D. After all, Smash3D has Robin.

No ****ing way. SSB3D has everything to be better than SSB64 (my favorite game in the series) and SSBM (my least favorite game in the series, by a huge margin). You know what would have been interesting instead? SSB64 bundled together with SSB3D and SSBM bundled with SSBU, kinda like Bayonetta 2 which will be released with the original Bayonetta as a bonus. This way, the people who are picking SSBU (lots of them are diehard competitive players) would get their beloved Melee and I would get my favorite Smash game on the 3DS.

It would be cool if Smash 3D came with 64 and Melee included, but I would only want 64 and Melee if they all came together in one package so that the community wouldn't be as split.

Why do you hate casuals? What have they done to you? Or to your dog? Or to Ridley?!
It's been a vendetta of mine since birth. After wavelanding into my mother's arms, my destiny as a competitive player was clear. I fight for glory, no items, and no random chance in any situation.

Hold on, does disliking Melee make someone a casual, or is liking 64 make someone a casual?

I think Phaazoid was just kidding (or so I hope :p) but I have read some people calling others who dislike Melee "casual" before (and trashing who likes Brawl). I play Smash almost in a daily basis, so I am the opposite of a casual player (though I am not exactly competitive either) and I really can't bring myself to enjoy Melee.

Unfortunately the community is already split since Brawl and now with Smash 3DS and Smash Wii U, it is just got worse.

It would be nice if SSB64 and Melee were released for the virtual console, but that's about it

Nah I'm just messing around I respect the competitive community and enjoy watching tournaments myself. However I also completely respect the casual player, as that's how I actually play the game, and find it a bit ridiculous that threads like this pop up that seem to suggest that Smash 4 3DS is so worthless that people would rather have a melee/64 port instead >.>

I agree. It is because of those people that the Smash Bros community has a bad reputation.

Well, not only those people. But the "tournyfag" stereotype is definitely harmful, and the opinion that the 3DS version is worthless because it isn't competitive seems to be along that vein.

I wouldn't want 64 or melee on 3ds they are were build for home consoles and should be on a the wiiu if anything. But smash 3ds was built for 3ds so i would rather play that on it. But if n64 and melee would to be remade i would be happy as hell.

I can't say that I would like to have those two games on 3DS over the new smash game. I mean, Melee would be cool so that I could practice when I don't have my gamecube with me, but honestly, I think it is best suited to be on the Wii U like other people said. If I could get both, I wouldn't complain, but not over Sm4sh.

Well yeah, the thing is that a lot of the people who think Smash 3DS is "worthless", "money-grab", "not competitive-viable", etc are also competitive players who worship Melee and think Brawl is the worst game ever made and whoever plays it is a casual unable to understand the mechanics of the game, etc. Of course, not all Melee/PM players are like that, don't get me wrong. After all, there are Melee/PM competitive players who also play Brawl and will most likely play Smash 4 as well.

Why did you even make a thread like this? The 3DS version is not bad. The fact that you're comparing SSB64 and Melee to it is a huge insult to the 3DS version. It's funny how people think it's pathetic and worthless.

I agree for the most part. I just think it's dangerous to think in those kinds of stereotypes at all. Not all people who play melee competitively hate the 3DS version, and not all people who hate the 3DS version have even played melee (there are also the fools who think it's existence is limiting the total character count, ect) I think mew2king is a great example; he's one of the top melee players right now, and has been for a while. He also has already put his support behind Smash 4, saying he wants to be the best there, too.

And I'm not trying to say you were using stereotypes, but I think it may be something others reading my posts (I was being super stereotypical lol) might not think about but should

I think some of the people in the 3DS support group are Melee players actually, so yeah, you are right.

Wouldn't mind having both.

But choosing some ports over a new game entirely? A new game that has 3D-in-my-face Rosalina?...

I've played every Smash except for the new releases (of course) and I will NEVER understand why people think Melee was the best -- at least in terms of character choice, the amount of clones in Melee were ABYSMAL. I absolutely cannot STAND clones, especially now that Smash 4 has the ability to just make alternate costumes.

Maybe it's just the novelty of the whole thing, maybe it's because Melee has "ROY OUR BOY" and "MEWTWO BEST POKEMON EVWAR BECUZ DAH MOVIE WAS DA BEST!!!!11!" and rarely "YOWNG LONK WAZ SOOO GUD **** TON LONK!"

Well then you'll be disappointed with smash 4 then because there are several characters who play like each other.

I think some people think Melee is better than Brawl/4 because of the mechanics and the speed of the game. Apparently the gameplay being as fast as in Sonic games and being full of exploitable glitches is a good thing to play and watch. I, for one, prefer the slower and more "defensive" gameplay of 64 and Brawl (mainly Brawl) and the lack of stuff like wavedashing and L-cancelling doesn't bother me in the slightest. Honestly, people liking Melee over newer games doesn't bother me, it is the lack of respect for the said and the people who like them that is insufferable.

No, I said clones. I can handle semi-clones, especially if it's Mario and Luigi's relationship, yeah they play sort of similar but they're different enough.

The only characters I see as even semi-clones thus far are Mario and Luigi, Link and Toon Link (of course please correct me if I'm missing a ton but I don't really think so). Lucina is the only straight-up clone at the very least.

Whoa where did that come from? I never used any words like pathetic and worthless. I want the 3DS version, but I know how important Melee in particular is to the community so I was merely curious.

Full of glitches lol a game without good mechanics is pretty worthless.

Nah, Melee is very uncomfortable to play without a proper controller due to all the advanced techniques involved, I'd never want to play such a competitive game on a handheld of all things, and I flat out dislike playing Smash 64 these days because of how rusty it feels, so that's a no-thanks from me too.

Re-releases of both Melee and 64? Melee and 64 could get Virtual Console releases for Wii U eShop instead. I'd rather have a new game and get some new experiences with it. Hmm, if Melee's HD version had an online mode, it'd overshadow Smash 4's in its entirety.

Welp, there's no reason to dislike Smash 3DS. We're finally getting Smash Bros. on a handheld, after 15 years of waiting, and people now hate on it? Meh. Talking about Brawl, the game isn't bad, in fact it's one of the best games available on the Wii. Of course, I lost interest playing it in 2010 (I still play it, just not as often), but that didn't stop me from liking the game. But yeah I agree, there are competitive players that, besides Melee and PM, play Brawl and would play Smash 4 in their version of choice, or both. (3DS or Wii U)
