I'm sure many of us here have played a First-Person Shooter recently.

Whether it be Call of Duty, or Halo... Or Quake, it doesn't matter!

If there's anything I've noticed in these FPS games, it's that they have something I think Smash should have.

Objective-Based Game Types

Think about it! One of the reasons why I like Halo so much is not because of it's FPS-ness, but because of how varied its game engine can truly be.

For instance, there's one game type that is prevalent among all shooting games. Capture the Flag.

We don't always want to play it the same way again and again. Maybe we can try new ways to play our beloved Smash Bros.

And I think objective based game types could bring a different kind of competition, one where the goal isn't to knock out other players (for the most part).

I can imagine a Capture the Flag in Smash Bros. I can imagine a King of the Hill in Smash Bros. Heck, in the Melee booklet, King of the Hill was a suggested custom game the players can make for themselves! Why not make it official?

Would you be interested in seeing a new variety of modes for Smash that AREN'T the "Special" modes? If so, which ones would you want to see?

Ever since Melee I wanted a CTF or KotH game mode. It would be so awesome and perfect! They also could do an Oddball type game mode where the person that holds on to a certain item the longest wins. They could even do a game mode on large stages where two teams have to gather certain items and bring them back to there base for points. All of these have been done in FPS's before but they would work so well in Smash. What could be a fun Smash Bros unique mode would be where each player has to KO their opponent in a specific way to get points, like using a Smash attack, Meteor Smash, Star KO, Special Attack KO, etc.

I like this idea! Maybe you could play a race to the finish in stages like Mushroomy Kingdom and Rumble Falls?

I had an idea based on a group of videos I stumbled upon on Youtube one day. Sadly, I was never able to find them, but basically, the premise was that two players would go head to head using all the characters in the game, with three stocks each.

For example, in the first round, you chose Mario and I chose Kirby and we fight on Battlefield. It's a close match and we're each down to one stock, then you score a smash on me and win. Because Kirby lost all three of his stocks, he is eliminated and so I cannot use him anymore. So I choose Lucas. The other person still has one stock left as Mario and so, when we get onto the next round stage, he is still Mario and only has one stock. Essentially it goes on like this until one person has no characters left.

I thought it was an amazing idea and it reminds me of the All-Star mode and All-Star matches from the previous games. And I would love this "Deathmatch" concept to be implemented into the game officially.

How about a linear 2D stage that the protagonist is trying to overcome obstacles and enemies to rescue a feminine damsel in distress because of a large turtle mutant thing creature? There can even be powerups that make the protagonist larger or give him special powers, like fireballs or even invincibility (only for a short time though).

The other characters can appear along the stage to try and stop the main player.

IDK... this seems like its been done before.

It's an interesting concept as far as SSB is concerned.

I'd be down for a capture the flag and king if the hill.

I would like to see some sort of Squad battle before anything non-fighting based was added.
Like, you select 3 characters and your opponent selects 3 characters, you switch to the next character if you get KOd.

I like the concept of a King of the Hill game type, but realistically I'd probably never play it, or any other game types really.

The 3 character idea is cool though, Marvel vs Capcom style, and you can chose to switch whenever but your stock % remains the same.

I'm up for that.^

I also wouldn't mind a gladiator type deal. Keep fighting harder and harder computers until yore out. The higher you go, the more 'coins' collected.

How about some cooperative stuff? Like you have to keep an item in the air for as long as possible by hitting it, hacky sack style. As you and your friends progress, the item starts to change to different items and when you hit it, you suffer the result as if the item were used on your character. Imagine the chaos when the Bob-omb appears!

Of course you have limited stock and when you and all your friends die is when it ends, or when the item hits the ground.

I remember playing a wrestling game ages ago that had a royal rumble mode where eliminated characters were replaced by a new one in the one battle.

A mode like that for smash would be really cool. 2-4 smashers and whenever one runs out of lives a new character appears randomly until you get to the final 2-4 on the roster.

For a different idea, it would probably only work well on large stages like Hyrule Castle but I've always wondered what battles with 8 characters at once would be like.

Lastly not sure how well this would work, but how about a "paint the stage" mode? Each player gets an item they can hit around the stage (a ball or something) and when it touches the stage it marks it with the colour of its player. (Red, blue, yellow or green) Whoever has the highest percent coverage wins. Players can beat each other up as usual or try to knock their ball offstage so it has to respawn.

A game mode designed around the Smash Ball would be good. For instance, a Smash Ball appears right at the start of the round, but it can't be used unless you can keep hold of it for 10 seconds, and it insta-kills anybody hit by it. When it's used, another one appears. All other moves would have significantly reduced knockback. Play for ~2 minutes, most kills wins!
