Would the only valid items in competitive battling be the Sandbag and food items?

They don't pull a big twist into the battle and really, i like sending sandbags to the stratosphere.

This has no chance of being approved, but i like to enable them when i'm doing friendly 2-stocks.

They are pretty tame, and slightly reduces the viability of camping.

However, the random variation of food appearing next to one player (and not the other) is still more distasteful than the trivial advantages.

Sandbag behaves similarly, randomly introducing extra hitlag, blocking projectiles, and triggering hurtbox-dependent states like Flare Blitz or Peach Bomber.

One major problem is that it is extremely punishable.

Scenario:

"Oh look! A food appeared near me! I'm gonna go get it!"

*Eats food*

*Gets grabbed*

"Ah crap!"

*HOO HAH*

The end.

I know it's uncommon, but there's also the instance of food appearing right in your face when you're trying to Jab, thus giving you no attack and the opponent a free whatever.

From my analysis I concluded no usual item can be used in competition due to random spawning items impeding competition. Even something as benign as food will stop an attack from being launched when it randomly spawns in the area. Additionally there's a chance for a CD/trophy to spawn with items on.
However, there's an exception.

Smashballs are definitively the only "item" that is of competitive value (though they are defined as items in the game with the Item Switch they seem to follow different rules). Smashballs do not spawn trophies/CDs which could impede gameplay, no exploding capsules/crates, do not create food spawn in Stages like Smashville, and only spawns in a specific area above the main Stage which does not give an inherent advantage to one player over the other due to it having to be strategically broken open instead of randomly given.
Additionally there looked to be a final tweak to the Final Smashes to balance the power of them.

This is one of those instances where you shouldn't be asking "why not?", you should be asking "why..?"

What does this help competitive play. sure it's only a minor hindrance, blocking projectiles, getting in the way a little. Biggest issue is players now being able to heal, making an already defensive game even more so.

But what exactly would it add to competitive play?

You may be interested in Item Standard Play, an entire ruleset dedicated to enjoying competitive matches with a balanced set of items. This is not the tournament standard obviously but it's not any less valid and if you enjoy it more power to you.

Shoutout to @SmashCapps who can tell you more about it.

It wouldn't add anything, it would just make players run for food or never even touch it and nothing would change
